Aegis paused in his spellcasting to survey the progress of the battle. The enemies numbers were severely diminished and everyone seemed to be holding their ground. It's time, he thought to himself. As Airelot approached, Aegis motioned for him to come near. "I need you to accompany me, our friends are faring well they can spare us, especially with the return of Aenarion, he is a fine warrior."

The young elf silently nodded his consent and Aegis began his spell casting yet again. From this close he could feel Zaad's presence, and it would not be difficult for the skilled mage to walk the paths of magic to confront the tyrant. The air around the two elves shimmered and swirled briefly, and when everything stopped spinning they found themselves in a large corridor insode the fortress. Except for the distant sounds of the battle raging outside, the corridor was relatively quiet. Aegis gestured for his companion to follow and they made their way down the hall to a large set of doors. Aegis could feel the magical presence more strongly here and he was certain that Zaad stood behind the doors.

Some distance down the hall the sound of armored footsteps could be heard approaching. Aegis glanced over to his companion. "Deal with them my friend, and return to me, I may need you before this is over."

As Airelot sprinted off Aegis turned his attention back to the doors. Reaching into one of his many pockets he removed a handful of small glass beads. Pushing the door open, Aegis saw the towering form of his foe standing at the far end of the large chamber, observing the battle from a high balcony. Aegis realized that Zaad felt his presence as the beast began to turn towards him. Acting quickly, Aegis muttered a word of command and hurled the glass beads onto the floor between the two foes. As the beads rolled across the stone floor, they began to swell, twisting and turning in unnatural motions. As they neared Zaad's feet they began to unfold into large spiders. Over waist high to Aegis, the spiders were devestatingly fast and weilded and venomous bite. Zaad howled as scores of the savage spiders began swarming over him. Aegis wondered briefly how long his magical pets would keep the Demon/mage entertained . . . not very long he decided.

Airelot looked around him. These were stronger foes then before, not just demons, but demon champions. Well armed, heavily armored, and much more skilled then others. The young elf looked at the falchion he held. He hefted it over his shoulder and clutched it tightly in both hands. The troop of demons rounded the corner, Zaad's elite. The 20 best of the best of Zaad's army, save for the mighty demon himself. Airelot held the sword as tightly as possible. He then calmed himself. More clam then he'd been in the soothing magic aura of Aegis, or in the heat of the battle outside. Not worried about his own health, just knowing time was of the sweet essence, he charged screaming a terrible war cry as he smashed into the first enemy, killing it while off guard. He clashed with the next one only to dis and reappear infront of another and gut it before it could scream. As the one from before turned it found Airelot's sword in it's neck. 3 down, 17 to go. He turned and killed a fourth foe. This wasn't working fast enough, he clashed with another demon and used the device to teleport before another foe, killing it. 14 more, but they had become wise to his style.

Airelot needed a new plan if he could help Aegis. He clashed with another of the creatures, angling his blade and letting it slide into the eye-visor of the foe. The he remembered, the katars! He dodged a blow from the next foe and hurled one of the lightly enchanted weapons into a foe, freezing it from the inside out. Finally the young elf took a hit. The flat of the enemies blade knocked him into another foe. He ducked as it swung and killed a comrade, causing several of the other creatures to kill it for treason. 10 more. The young elf then threw his remaining katar into another foe killing it as well. Now he was getting mad, he had foes to deal with and more may have been coming, and that left Aegis to deal with the demon mage alone. Adreanaline now pumped through his veins sending him to a more primal state. *slash, hack, crunch* before he realised he had killed most of that wave and taken little damage, but the rush was coming off, and more may have been coming, as well as the 3 he still had to deal with.

Zept looked around, his voice boomed as he talked all his allies could here him, "Go help Aegis and Airelot, I handle these" Zept looked around and saw his allies getting closer to the fortress, he took to the air with his multiple injuries and then dove into the hoardes near the gates, "Go now" he yelled as his new blade broke inside the skull of a Demon. Zept saw the Demon Slayer, "Save your energy for Zaad, he's more important!"

Spiders crawling over his body, Zaad was impressed by the mages power, he was strong, but nor strong enough, Zaad still held the staff of Eieshar, a relic of insumountable power. His claws tightened on the surface of it, black like burnt wood. And his eyes narrowed slightly. Suddenly with no more than a thought, the every spider Aegis had summoned was inanimate glass again. Again Zaad's eyes tightened and the glass forms shattered into a thousand pieces.

Extending a hand out at Aegis while the mage still considered his next move, Zaad voice echoes a few ancient words, to any passerby nothing could be seen. But the air around Aegis drew together, conpressing the mage where he stood, crushing him slowly and painfully. At the same time the air began to heat around the mage aswell. Zaads other hand shot out around the room, the tiny fragment of glass that lay on the floor grew again, much like the way Aegis had done it, but this time they all formed needle like points, deadly sharp. Slowly they floated up into the air and drew in on Aegis their tips just touching his skin, and slowly with the air around them they went deeper into the mages bones. Trapped in air, being cooked alive and flesh torn by his own magics, A mocking laugh came from Zaads mouth, this time int he voice of Eieshar.

Botanicus is oblivious to the plight of Aegis- pinned down by a demon champion, his face is in grotesque tatters. This creature seems to be enjoying itself- every time it strikes the wounds heal before it can attack again. Botanicus moans, turning to face Aislinn, before dropping a single seed next to him, and breathing onto it- spraying fragments of his lips with it.

A white glow forces the seed into the earth- and a slight rumble is heard. A queer bud appears, that spreads open into a mass of vines. Each vine snaps forwards, wrapping around the demons form. The tendrils are covered in slime, each time a tentacle touches the demon, it seems to not come off. They tighten, dragging the creature towards the ground, and swiftly pulling him under to drown in the earth. A white flower appears as the struggle beneath the soil stops, and around the dryad, many similar 'tangle-plants' are sprouting.

Airelot head Aegis's crys of pain, but the young elf knew he couldn't break away from his combat, the others were all outside and he was alone to deal with the demon guard, and soon if all things went as they were, alone to face Zaad as well.

The pain of the magical darts was intense, and the restriction of the magical bonds was so tight that Aegis could barely breath. Without the breath to speak the words of a spell Aegis had to rely on the magic imbued in his staff. The blue robed mage managed to spit out a magical word and stamp the butt of his staff on the stone floor. A soft light began to glow in the crystal head and it quickly spread to consume Aegis. As the magical energy flowed through him Aegis could feel the magical bonds weaken and slide off of him, the darts fell from his flesh shattering into dust as they struck the floor.

Another command sent a burst of energy from the staff that collided with Zaad, sending him staggering back against the wall. While the demon struggled to recover from the stunning effect of the blow, Aegis produced another handful of beads from a pocket in his robes. As small as grains of sand, the beads were so cold that Aegis could barely stand to touch them.

With an effort Aegis tossed the dust of ice beads into the air as he began chanting. The dust seemed to hang in the air for a moment before erupting into a storm of four foot ice spears. The lethal barrage of spears rained down on the recovering Zaad, most shattering on his thick armor, leaving deep dents where they had struck. Many others found creases and weak spots piercing deeply into the thick, tough hide of the creature.

Aegis struggled to maintain his balance, dozens of puncture wounds littered his body, his skin was raw from the searing heat. He looked almost longingly at the large puddle of water forming at Zaad’s feet, created by the ice spears as they melted shortly after impact.

When a demon came close enough to attack Botanicus, Aislinn immediately put away her bow and took out her sword. Hacking into the demon's back seemed to have little effect on him. The evil creature continued attacking the dryad repeatedly. As Aislinn attempted to stab the sword through its head, she noticed the demon becoming entangled in vines. In an instant, there were carniverous vines all over the ground, dragging monsters to their doom. Springing up lightly into a tree, the elf thought it was best to avoid being pulled underground to her death.

From her viewpoint in the tree, Aislinn could see how the tree, Yggdrasil, was affected by all this. In a few short moment it has lost all of its leaves and looked withered. The tree was dying, it's life force being sucked out by evil powers. Alterting the dryad, she called out, "Botanicus, we must get to Yggdrasil and keep the tree from dying. If it dies all our efforts here will be in vain."

Jumping out of the tree, Aislinn followed an already loping Botanicus through the monsters towards the tree. She kept her sword in the air, ready to dispatch any that would attempt to stop them, but all the while keeping their goal in view.

The dryad turns and nods, bowing his head, and charging head first into a nearby demon. as he charges, a horn swells from his forehead, spearing the creature. His arms become legs, his body swells as he metamorphosises into a horse. As he turns, his skin becomes pearly white- then covered in sleek hair. A mane sprouts from his neck- as he becomes a full-fledged unicorn. He pauses long enough for Aislinn to leap astride him, before cantering towards his father- leaping impossibly high.

Writhing over the mass of cold shards dashing on his armour and skin, Zaad grumbled, once in a while one pierced his flesh and the cold sered all the way to his bones. Sweeping his arms out from huddling defence, red fire sjot from his hadns enveloping the incoming spears. The tongs of flame spread scourging the dust on the air, any left was wafted from the room or burned to soot.

Standing straight up one more, Zaads clawed hand shot out again, sending Aegis smashing into the wall, the imact knocking him to the ground in a heap. Zaads fist clenched and flows of magic in the air began to slowly suck all water out of Aegis' body, his tiny wounds looking steaming, his whole body getting dryer and dryer, going inevitably towards becoming dust.

"You, you are trouble." Turning his head to the balcony and watching his last remaining demons being finished off Zaad's mouth twisted. "All of you" Rasping the clawed staff of eieshar on the floor black light flashed once. "I will not let you take what is mine, I will not let you ruin all my works. It is nigh time I shed this place from my plans, The next stage will begin." A smile touched the face once more, only a little set off by a twist of cold pain left from the spears. "And you shall die here with the rest of them".

Letting loose the spell that stole the moisture from Aegis' body, Zaad was confident the mage would be out of action long enough. He walked over the the bolcony, holding the staff high in the air clouds darkened in the sky, the earth shook.

Lighning smashed the groubnd, tortured the earth all across the island, Fireballs reigned from the sky burning the already dying and drought ridden plants to cinders, the earth shook, and mountains crashed to earth. The water around the island began rising, drowning the land, the sea swallowing up this small place. The walls of the fortress shook, in places crashs burst forth showering the room with rocks and dust. Zaad turned to Aegis one last time "You could still hold your strength to fight if you like, but you would die in the tumbling stone, but you dont seem like the heoic martyr to me, especially since you seem to be the only one with power enough to save your friends from the same fate, the is still time for that." Grey lips and sharp teeth let out a mocking smirk. "run along then"

Turning his back on the Aegis, Zaad held the staff forward, a faint glow appeared and a hole in reality formed in the air. A gateway to the city where it all had began, now looking much different, dragons wheeled in the skies, ranks of powerful demons marched the streets and every building was either a burnt pile of ashed or rubble. Laughter ran through the halld of the crumbling fortress.

Botanicus stops for a second "The island...she's screaming," He cocks his head "Perhaps..." He smiles wryly, a nigh impossible gesture in his current state- before heading into a gallop towards the tree- they head underground, weaving in and out of passages.

Aegis sat on the floor in a twitching, weakened state. He could see the flesh on his hands was withered and had a malnourished look. As he again struggled to his feet, he realized by the sharp pains in his side that Zaad had broken several of his ribs. The mage did take some delight in the knowledge that Zaad was also injured, Aegis could see an unsteadiness to his walk, and blood seeping out of various places in his armor.

Aegis thought he could summon the power for one final attack before he had to fumble for another potion. Let Zaad think that Aegis was more concerned with the dying island than his foe's destruction. Aegis smiled slightly at Zaad's underestimation as the Demon stood in front of a portal with his back to the blue robed mage.

As Aegis began chanting he braced his staff between his feet and gave it a firm tug. The bottom section of the staff separated from the body revealing a glowing two foot blade. As Aegis continued to chant the glow spread to the rest of the staff. Zaad turned back to the elf as Aegis hurled the staff. Zaad's eyes went wide as the projectile pierced his armor, abdomen, and broke through his back. The staff began to burn a fiery red from the many charms laid upon it to ward anyone other than Aegis touching it.

The abundance of wounds began to overwhelm Aegis, and without the aid of his staff he could no longer maintain his balance. Aegis slumped back to the floor and began trying to remove an elixer from one of his pouches.

Zept looked around at his aliies, he ran over to the Femal Elf and Botanicus, "Go now, there's not much time left, you'll be more use to them in a fight then I would ever be" Zept had gutted a Demon while saying this, and it took Aislinn and Botanicus a nibute to figure out it was Zept since he looked so much different. Zept didn't wait around to find out their answer though, he cut his way to the center of the battle, then the Demons started to back away, he had redeamed himself, he was no longer evil, he had a purpose in life, a life which he knew was coming to an end soon.

As the Demons back away form him Zept noticed himself glow, a bright white light. Zept felt his forhead, no more horns, but he still had wings, which were now much larger, and no longer Demonic. His wings were feathered and white, and his claws had become hands once more. His flesh was tanned as it once was, and he felt the light inside him, from one extreme to another. Zept had come form a Demon to and Angel, he had experienced what both his Father and Mother were, and he liked his current form much more. A holy blade formed in Zept's hands. It was a five and a half foot long Greatsword. The blade had a gold trimmed guard and leather covered hilt. The blade was white with gold on it and had ruins ingraved into it. It radiated with a bright white glow which hinted gold as well. There was a green jem at the bottom of the hilt which seemed to glow as well.

A Demon looked at the once Demon, now Angelic holy being, "The Hunter of the Shadows is rising!" Zept liked the sound of it, 'Hunter of the Shadows' Zept thought to himself as Demons surged in at him all around him, wave after wave. Zept weilded the blade with great skill, this was his last stand...

Airelot cut down the last of the demons he faced and ran to Aegis, he sheathed the falchion and threw the mage carefully over his shoulders and used his device to teleport away from their current location to the location of Botanicus and Ailsinn.

"No!" Aegis gasped as Airelot lowered him to the ground. "Go back! I must have the staff of Eieshar to end it! Bring it to me, he is weakened . . ." Aegis words trailed of as a fit of coughing shook him.

Pain, such a feeling, such a sensation as Eieshar had not felt for millenia. Zaads body scewered like a pig with a magical blade, and pain so strong, so foul writed through his body. Twisting and turning on the stone floor of the fortress, dropping his staff to clutch at the blade through his body. The sereing of the metal bound it to the flesh, yet blood still flowed and hurt flashed through his eyes.

Extending one had to the narrow portal still open, if he could only go through, he could have time to remove it, to heal, but rock crashed from the ceiling and walls shook again and again. Slowly at a crawl Zaad began to traverse the floor as if it were ten thousand miles of fire. The pain began to lessen slightly, and the far walls went fuzzy. Putting one arm in from of another the crawl continued, slowly Zaad no longer felt the pain in his limbs, and the world begna to fill with fog. Crawling with all his might, his arms and legs were slow to act, forcing them he went on. After an eternity the lumbering form of Zaad was through the portal and lying on ashes beside the hole to te island, thick deep dark red blood glistened on the blackened earth, Zaad could no longer see it, the fog was too thick, all he could see was the portal, and through it was his staff. Without the strength to go back all he could to was watch, walls cracks and shook, rumbled and broke. The room filled with rubble, that was the last Zaad's eyes saw, the fog was too thick, the pain was gone, he felt nothing anymore.

As the monstrous form of Zaad let its last breath out, something else fled from the body, something much more dangerous. The soul of Eieshar, over twenty millenia ago he had been defeated by the united armies of the time, the end of the mage wars was found at last, over the corpse of the destroyer. But little did anyone know it was no more than a corpse. All the power of all the age had given unto Eieshar limits beyond those of a mortal body, he was not immortal, nor invincible, but he was so filled with power he no longer needed a body. And for over twenty thousand years that soul had remained dormant deep inside Zaad, the one creation he had made that could stand the test of time. Now it craved another form, for without one he could touch the world no more, the ruined city, the dragons wheeling int he sky and the legions upon legions of demon champions and monstrous hordes would be fore naught. Eieshar still wanted what he had come so close to so long ago, what no one had ever achieved before, to hold every last corner of Elysium in his power, or to destroy it. One way or another he would fulfill that desire. The long dead soul swept though what were once streets, to find a new body.

Aenarion blade hacked and parried through the unending hordes of demons. Sunfang glowed with black fire defiantly as all the demonic creatures met their doom. Jumping onto a large demon he stabbed down into the creatures neck. He took a short moment from that height to look about. It seemed Aegis and the young Elf were gone. So was the Dryad and the female elf. All that remained on the battlefield was Zept, and himself. The other two Lurion and Lorek must have gone somewhere else. 'Flick' his eyes wavered back to Zept, the man was now what looked like an Angel of war, with his magestic wings and shining sword. Shouting to him he motioned for them to make their way to the Fortress, "Come battle brother, our time is nigh". No sooner had he spoken these words, than the island began to shake, and he could feel the land die away....this was not good. Jumping back down he hacked and slew the demons, slowly making his way to the gates, as Sunfang glowed defiantly in his hand.

Airelot nodded in understanding and teleported back within the fortress. He saw the staff but knew it could be dangerous to touch. The young elf unthinkingly grabbed the chain he'd recieved in Aegis's armory and used it to pick up the staff and teleport away. Just as he reappeared next to Aegis the castle crumbled, the young elf looked at the ancient mage, awaiting the next series of events.

Zept looked around, 'Is it my time' he thought as saw the Fortress crumble, the only ally he could see was Aenarion, who was killing Demons as well. Zept slew more of his foes with his blade which seemed to burn threw the monsters Zaad had unleashed upon them. Zept parried many attacks at once with a skillfull move and then swung his blade around as he spun killing many of the Demons around him.

Airelot appeared near Zept and Aenarion, "Come we must go," he said sternly waiting for their reply as the island shook, going under quicker now, there wasn't much time.
