It was cold and dark in the world outside of Zaad's dreams. His conciousness had slowly flowed back into reality after his long rest. Sitting up he felt his head ache. It had been a long time since he first entered the cave to escape the torment of the world outside, all his years fighting wars and the only peace he could find was in a hole in the ground. He didnt know how long it had been, but it felt like more than an age of history had passed. Hopefully the world would have forgotten his crimes, hopefully they would treat him with something other than malice this time.

He stood up in the small rocky hole and looked around, there was a pool of water below where he had slept. That had not been there when he arrived. He delved further to where he thought the entrance was, but it was gone. In all this time it had become blocked and filled, Zaad was trapped. Looking around desperately he could find no way out, only a small crack dripping with water. At least it was a start.

Remembering the glory of his days in combat, he was stronger than any troll, he had torn fortresses down with his bare hands, this wouldnt be a problem. Tensing his claws he poised them ready to strike. In and instant the rock was flying from the wall like mud. Zaad's mighty claws were ripping through stone as if it were soft wood. He slashed and clawed untill he had torn his way through twenty feet of solid stone. He felt the wall weaken, he was nearng the other side. With one mighty punch he smashed through the last five feet of rock, and through it came a torrent of water that washed at Zaad like a river. Wading forward into a small tunnel Zaad sniffed, the air stank like a sewer. Looking as the structure it must be a sewer, to think that while he had slept they had built this on top of him made him laught. He hadnt slept all this time to stop here, he longer for the surface, to see daylight again, so he strode in the seemingly narrow passage to find an exit.

After five minutes he had found a shaft leading upwards, it was built for a man so if was too narrow for him. Impatient as he was, he decided to widen if for his ascent. Clawing away at the sides untill he was on his way up. He could see a gleam of light through a hole in the grating adove. He quickend his pace in anticipation for his freedom. With another mamoth punch he sent the grate flying through the air and wrenched himself into the open air.

Daylight had blinded him briefly, when he regained his sight he could see the blue sky, and smiled. There were huge builings around him. He was in a city, but none were like this in his previous years, Towers stood as tall as castles, there were fountains and paved streets. Nobles walked rode high on their horses in masses, there were elves, dwarves, men and many other creatures alike. Zaad had never seen a city this big, he looked down at the people, they had probably never seen anything like him before either. But before he could speak they were screaming and running away in fear. He tried to explan that he meant no harm but after his long slumber it took too long to string his words together. Soon there were guards running at him, as well as many assorted warriors. He was surrounded by a circle of spears and soldiers three rows thick. One pounced too soon and put his spear in Zaads shoulder. It managed a scratch before the wooden shaft broke against his thick skin. He hardly felt the pain, but it awoke the warrior in him. Clenching his fist he knocked the attacker away into the nearest building, but then his friends went for him as well. A dozen spears were slashing at him, they felt like a itch making him want to swat them like the flies they were to him. But he couldnt, he didnt want another thousand years of people trying to kill him, he resisted the urge to kill and found his way past the soldiers back to the hole from which he rose. He jumped down back into the sewers and ran down the tunnel. the soldiers left above as when he had climbed up he had smashed away the ladder rungs.

He ran back to his cave, now half flooded with water and he thought. Once again people were against him, he didn't want this, he didn't want any more blood on his hands. Soon the guards would come again, and soon there would be a thousand mercenaries and adventurers aching to slay him. He didnt know what to do. Wading through his cave he found where he had left his weapon. It was a cast iron mace that stood taller than any man and was heavier than a house, but at least it was blunt and could knock away soldiers without killing them, which would help.

He returned to the sewer tunnels, he could hear the voices of search parties shouting. And he ran away from them, into the maze of the tunnels. He had once killed men for pleasure, and now he ran from them in fear. The hunter had truely become the hunted.

Aegis, from his study in the upper levels of the highest tower of the kings palace, stood in his window watching the commotion in the streets below. "A demon" he said to himself, "And a large one at that." In the almost fifteen hundred years since his expulsion from the order of the light, Aegis had summon a hundred demons from the Abyss, none of them able to fulfill his purposes. The darker and more destructive demons he banished or destroyed, the rest however, he moved to a remote island where they would be safe from persecution.

He could feel the excitement building inside, finally he might have the oportunity to make use of a valuable demon. His strength in magic was nearly unrivalled in the world of mortals, however, he feared the the mages from his former order would descend upon him if he left the safety of his study. Cast out so long ago for is abstract thinking and studies, he no longer wore the white robes of the Order of the Light, neither did he wear the black robes of the dark orders, instead he wore his own, blue, velvet robes. Unfortunately they made him stand out should another mage happen by, not that it was likely, most magi stayed hidden from the world in recent years.

Gathering a few valueable essential, his staff, and his hooded cloak, he set the many traps that guarded his study from intruders. Before leaving he chanted a few arcane words and the crystal on his staff began to glow a fierce white. Emitting a slender beam of light her scribbed a circle onto the floor in the center of the room, a handy escape route should it be needed. Standing in the center of the circle he closed his eyes and opened himself up to his powerful magic. The air in the room began to shimmer, and he suddenly vanished.

Standing at the entrance to the palace he noted several people jump back, startled at his sudden appearance. He made his way through the milling crowd, it was easy since most of them parted at his coming. Nearly everyone had heard the stories of the mage living in the kings palace, though most had never seen him. In truth the king himself rarely saw Aegis.

As he neared the large opening in the street he saw several large groups of armed men sliding into the opening with ropes. The thought occured to him that it might be beneficial to have a warrior along on this quest, but it was a fleeting thought, and he had no time to recruit a worthy companion.

As Aegis neared the gaping hole in the street most of the crowd stepped away, fearful of the mysterious mage. Then shouts rose out among the crowd, people insisting that the mage be slain, or burned. As usual his presence incited panic among those not accustomed to magi, he paid it little attention, people feared what they did not know. After a moment, several men appeared at the edge of the crowd, eyeing Aegis with hatred, then more appeared, all armed. They began to move in closer to the mage, shouting obsceneties and threats. As the first man lifted his mace for an attack, Aegis again chanted words in the arcane language of magic, slowly waving the palm of his hand in the direction of the attackers. The air around the hole took on a more solid appearance, his hand looked like it was passing over a pool of water, as ripples flowed away from him in a wide arch. The advancing men stumble back and fell to the ground when the ripples reached them, after the air returned to it's normal serene state.

Shaking his head in disgust at the display Aegis moved to the edge of the opening. With the head of his staff pointed at his feet he stepped from the edge and floated slowly to the floor of the sewer.

Stopping momentarily after his escape, Zaad listened intently for any sound of pursuit. There was nothing but the splash of water as its ripples fled from him. He had been running non stop since he'd first heard the search parties, in these sewers it would take men a long time to trudge through the waste he had traversed with ease.

Thinking about what he could do, zaad concluded that he couldnt stay down here, he longed for the rays of the sun. If he remained in the sewers they would find him, the passages may have stretched the length of the city, but soon enough they would find him, he couldnt return to the streets as he would be spotted with ease. Thinking deeper about where he could hide lead him to the slums, surely in the vast dark alleys that even guards feared to tread there would be a safe place to hide. Thats was of course assuming this city did have slums, it seemed so bright and clean where he had surfaced, but he knew that were a man was wealthy another was poor. The dark alleys usually lay by the river where the sewers emptied, the nobles went nowhere near them and so the human detritus arose. All zaad needed to do was follow the flow of the water to get there.

Pleased with his logic Zaad gave a smile, and checking the direction the filthy water flowed he followed it throught the dark tunnels, hoping for a way out at the end of his journeys.

Aislinn had nothing worthwile to do, she had recently left the service of Lord Imhar, the man had become unable to pay her a decent wage. She decided to take a walk towards the edge of town where she could think uninterrupted. Within a few moments of her walk, she realized it was the worst place in Elysium to pick. The outskirts of town was where all the sewers emptied into the small streams. During certain times of the day the stench could be undescribable.

Deciding that the noise and bustle of the main streets would be preferable to the smell of the sewers, the elf turned around to head back towards the marketplace. Perhaps visiting the blacksmith for some new arrows would give her some pleasant thoughts. Her mind was in turmoil about finding a new master to serve. Several had approached her since she left her last position, but none offered to pay more than foot soldier wages. Aislinn had too much pride in her skills to accept such an offer.

Pausing for a moment, she bent down to pick a small rock out of her boots. Out of the corner of her eye she spotted the strangest being she had ever seen. It was grey, gigantic and hideous. Aislinn had never in her life seen anything like it. Her hand immediately went to a dagger, she stayed down low on the ground hopefully out of the creature's sight. Fortunately for her, it went in a completely different direction, not detecting the elf's presence at all. With a small sigh of relief, she bounded back towards her apartment. Hoping to immediately find someone to tell about what she saw.

Pushing past the slime Zaad emerged from the end of the long tunnel. The light shone on him felt like the fist breath of air after nearly drowning. He was happy to be free of the stink ridden filth of the sewers, but it was still terrible here.

Quickly looking around zaad saw that he was just below a line of buildings that covered the riverbank. Noone was around, they probably prefered to spend the least amount of their time by this smell. Wrenching himself up into the street he ran for the nearest cover, hoping not to be seem. After a short run through empty back alleys he crawled into a deserted stable. The rafters were littered with cobwebs and there were thick streams of dust in the air. This would make a good hiding place for now. Laying down at last to rest in the last few bits of hay zaad looked up, through a hole in the roof he could see the sky he had longed for. He hoped none would find him, he had escaped the sewers safely, and if he was lucky then none saw him flee to this building.

Aenarion stood slowly from the cliff's edge as he looked to the horizon. He could feel inside him something that he had not sensed in many ages. For fifteen thousand years, the Elf had not felt what he felt within him now. A force seemed to have awoken from its slumber and he was one of the few that knew what it was. Many ages had passed since Aenarion renounced his battle life, as he walked his forefathers land in peace. He was forgotten now, since the days of old where his name was written amongst his kind and even men, but they have forgotten him and his courage, as he was lost within history. Yet now it seemed time that he must take up his old ways again, and make them rememeber.

He turned away form the horizon and walked back into his abode. Insie he went to a sealed chest, covered the the cobwebs of age, as he dusted them away and opened it. He opened them to reveal what many warriors dreamt about, and many had not heard. He pulled out his armour, passed down to him, his family's armour wrought from the scales of a Dragon. As he put on his other armour, he finally came to what was his most treasured item; The sword of Khaine, said to have been able to slay every greater demon the gods of chaos sent. It was time to remember Aenarion the Proud Defender, Aenarion the Ever Brave.

Aegis made good time through the sewers of the city, in this cramped setting he could sense the energy emitted by the beast. It felt to him like a faint trail left for him to follow. Briefly he wished that he would have paid more attention all those years ago when his brothers tried to teach him the ways of tracking, but it was to late now, he would have to use what senses he had.

Abruptly he found himself standing at the end of a tunnel, the sewer appeared to let out into the river here. It did not take an experienced tracker to notice the deep marks left in the filthy sludge. "The demon must have left the tunnel here." He said to himself. "Brave indeed to venture back to the surface where he is vulnerable."

In one of the many tunnels at his back Aegis could hear the echoing of shouts and booted footsteps. The search parties were closing in. "Humans, a greedy race." He thought to himself. The men in the sewers sought to find some wealth or treasure hoarded by the demon, a ridiculous notion for the most part, but useful knowledge should one need to manipulate these weak willed men.

Aegis made a nimble bound to the mouth of the tunnel, avoiding the knee deep muck on the floor. He pulled a small pouch from his belt, and removed a handful of fine pouder from within. Chanting quietly he scattered the dust on the floor of the tunnel. The image of a wall appeared in the end of the tunnel. Nothing more than an illusion, but to those who would happen along this part of the sewer, it would appear to be solid stone. Hopefully this would give some relief to the pursuit, if everyone was searching the sewers, Aegis would have more time to locate the demon on the surface.

Chuckling softly to himself, Aegis again held the head of his staff at his feet. As the gemstone at the head of the staff began to glow softly, Aegis gently floated to the street along the river.

Rin ran along an alley in the old city. It had once been the grandest part of twon, with the large town homes of the country's nobles overlooking the river, but those days were long gone. Now, the outlet of the sewers gave such a stench to the place that even the poor seldom ventured there. But this was exactly the reason she was there. If the poor would not go there, then neither would her father's guards. She leaned against a wall for a moment to catch her breath, and for the thousandth time wondered why her father could not accept that she refused to live the life of a lady. As a child she had always preferred the tale of the great heroines of old, from the days of the great Orion Sarat, to those of meek princesses rescued from terrible beasts. Suddenly, she was interrupted from her musings by voices. They had followed her! Her father must be paying them a great deal if they were willing to come into this part of the city. Quickly, she continued down the alley. After a short run, she found and old door. She pulled it open and ducked in, closing it behind her and hoping her persuers had not heard the tortured screeches of the long rusted hinges. She stood silently, her back to the door, as the guards ran past outside. When they had long departed, she relaxed and looked around the room. She was in an abandoned stable, dusty and full of cobwebs. And she was not alone.

Relaxing after is flight from the guards, Zaad hardily noticed hurried footsteps outside, he was too busy in thought to notice the light through the gaps in the wall was being blocked by another running down the alley. Not knowing if the people had found him, or some other enemy was approaching all he could do was freeze in the corner and hoped not to be noticed in the gloom of the building. His fears were solidified as the handle on the door rattled and the door swung open, on the other side stood a figure, it wore a long cloak that obscured its face through which zaad could not distinguish what the creature was. Not a moment before the door was open, the figure had rushed inside and closed the door again, moments later more footsteps came, but these avoided the door alltogether and continued down the alley away.

The figure seemed to relax, Zaad did not know what to do, it seemed to him whenever he made an introduction it was followed by either screaming or weaponry. He sat motionless, hoping he was not noticed, fear pounding in his heart that he would be discovered by the guards again thanks to this creature. But before the demon could decide what to do, the figure had survayed the room and caught sight of him.

In the corner of the stable sat a huge thing resembling a cross between a giant lizard and a rhinocerous. Startled, and having enough sense to know she had no chance of winning a fight picked with it, Rin scrambled over behind one of the heavy posts supporting the roof. She knew it had seen her, but unless it attacked, she did not want to risk going back out into the alley. When, after a few moments it did not show any outward signs of agression, she stepped back from behind the beam slowly and cautiously. She lowered her hood but still it sat there. .:It can't be in the employ of my father. If it were, it would have recognized me and grabbed me:. She decided that if it had intended to hurt her, it would have done so already.

Looking around for signs of guards and listening, she spoke quietly. "I don't know who you are, or even what you are, but I'm just looking for a place to hide for a while. I won't bother you if you won't bother me." Still on her guard, she awaited the creature's response.

Aegis entered the run down section of town that the humans reffered to as 'the slums'. He had always found it interesting, watching the economic struggles of those inside the city. How one could rest in luxury while another, perhaps a better and more worthy person was forced to live in an area like this, just a few blocks away. The marvelous thing about these run down sections of civilization, is that they play by their own rules. A perfect place for this Demon to hide, he thought to himself.

Out in the open Aegis could not sense the beast as strongly as he could in the confines of the sewers. In fact he could do little more than be certain the demon was near. It appeared that he would have to find another means seeking his goal. Since his tracking skills were limited, offering little hope of following the beast, Aegis decided to mingle with the people of this neighborhood, perhaps one of them has seen something.

Pulling his cowl low over his face, he made his way toward what appeared to be an open market surrounded by unremarkable buildings. Possibly appartments, he reasoned. There were few people about, likely on the other side of town marvelling at the destruction created earlier in the day. As he entered the wide street holding the market he was met by an elven woman. She nearly ran him over in fact, appearing to be in a rush to get somewhere.

Taller than Aegis, slender with short blonde hair, she was quite an attractive woman, but as with most things, Aegis disregarded her appearence to keep his goals in sight. "Pardon me miss." He said politely. She appeared a bit taken aback by his presence, though whether it was the typical response to his robes, or because she did not see him he could not tell. "You seem a bit anxious, may I be of service to you?"

The figure stumbled back in shock at the sight of the demon, and fled to hide behind a support post. Zaad still sat motionless, trying not to make any aggresive motions, he still did not know what to do about the new arrival, he could leave it alone, he could let it go. But his thoughts were broken by the movement of the figure, it came out from behind its hiding place and lowered its hood. It was human and appeared to be a young girl despite her shadowy clothing. Instead of finding an angry face that wished to harm him, zaad saw fear, but not fear of him, fear of something else. It spoke and told him that it wished to hide. Grinding his throat into motion his voice that had not been heard in many millenia was heard once more.

    "I....I am...."

Zaad did not finish, he did not want to say his name for he hated it. It was reknowned with blood and war, death and destruction, it was a terrible name forever followed by "The Destroyer" or "The Brutal" and many thousands of hateful titles.

    "I am hiding also"

Aenarion, slid his blade into a sheath at this side, as he took up his shield and left his home, to go begin his old life. He then walked around his house to find his horse, Malhandir, a descendant of the father of horses. Aenarion truly was lucky to have such a prized armoury and mount, which he wore and rode with pride, as he carried his family's honour.

Untying Malhandir, Aenarion slung his shield across his back, and mounted the horse. Immidiately the horse snorted and shook its head; Malhandir could sense his masters feelings, and he knew that once again he was needed, and would fight alongside his master. Automatically the horse began trotting, as Aenarion gently guided him. His home was remote, and it would take many a day to reach where he felt the source of his inner feeling; where the demon was.

Airelot walked down the dirt road near the outskirts of the city. The weapon on his back clanking as it bounced off his back with each step. His hands always poised on the handles of two of his daggers. At all times he seemed nervous, his eyes darting from place to place, when the device began to hum. At the change in sound he jumped before he realised it's source; he looked at the strange item as his fingers locked around it, he twisted two of the nobs and disappeared...

...In a moment he was in the town's slums, he gagged at the smell, and began to cough. After he regained his composure he was still breathing in quick gasps. He looked around, the device was humming louder now and began to vibrate slightly. His hand went to the falchion at his hip drawing it. In his other hand he held the device, it was taking him somewhere, drawing him toward someone...

...After a few moments of walking aimlessly he came to where a mage in blue strode inquiring people about something. Airelot observed the mage, the device seemed to pull itself toward him. Airelot sheathed the sword in his hand and began to approach the mage, he would speak to him once he finished with the conversation that demanded his attention.

We walked around humming a tune to himslef, his handsbehind his head, he was care free and careless. Three men, all armed with long swords, they unsheathed them and raised them as they saw him walking by. One of them spoke to the others, "It's him, it's Zept Hellcloud" Zept just turned his eyes to the three men then started to walk again. The three men ran after Zept, the one who had spoken before spoke again, "Hey you, give up now or die" Zept turn around and raised one eye brow, "What'd I do now?" Zept said as the men looked at him, he was completely oblivious to why thye were after him. The aparent leader stepped out of the three, "You're the one who killed that village and burnt it down aren't you, well we're hear to end your rain of terror, murderer!" the man surged forward with his blade raised, the other two followed, also with blades raised.

Zept looked at the three surging towards him, "Aw shit" he said as the first one swung at him, he leapt into the air and sideways mid-air kicked the man in the face, sending him into the blade of one of the other oncoming men's assults. The last man stabbed at Zeot as he landed, but the warrior sumersalted out of the way of the powerful trust. Zept then flipped to his feet while drawing his sword and cut the man in half at the waist. Zept looked to the only surviving man of the three who had attacked him, "I didn't kill any vilagers, you tell that to everyone, and if I hear anything about it again i'll track you down myself and slay you" Zept said while sheathing his great sword. He then put his hands behind his head and started to walk again, humming the same tune as before.

Zept had kept walking and had found a mage in velvet blue robes, he was busy at the moment so Zept stood beside an Elf and waited to talk to the man, somethign about this wizard was aluring and he had to find out what it was.

Aegis stood silently in the street, still holding on to the elf maid who had run into him when he noticed two interesting characters arrive. Both stood several steps back, seemingly waiting to speak with him. Giving the woman a gentle pat on the shoulder he turned to reguard the newcomers. He was used to drawing onlookers whenever he was out in public, but he had not had this much interaction with people in a very long time. He wondered silently if he should have remained locked inside his tower where no one could bother him. He sincerely hoped that neither of these men would act rashly, he truly despised having to kill in public.

From the depths of his hooded cloak he studied the two men for a moment, one obviously an elf, the other he couldn't say for sure, though both gave him interesting feelings. Aegis mumbled a few soft words and waved a hand toward the newcomers. Just a simple spell really, but one that would detect magical objects. A smile creased his lips when the two men looked down to see a few of their objects glowing with a faint blue light.

"Very interesting." Aegis remarked. "Do the two of you have business with me?"

"I was brought here by this device, my name is Airelot," Airelot said simply, he must have appeared nervous, he felt chills running down his spine, he could feel himself shake, "I was hoping you could help me understand this object, and perhaps I could be of help to you, an eye for an eye some would say." he severely hoped he didn't sound like a fool.

Zept let his glasses slide a bit down his nose and raised one eye brow at the Mage in blue, "All I know is I get a feeling from you. You stink of demon and magic" Zept pushed his glasses up before andyone could see his eyes. He then ran his left hand threw his hair, "Your a mage is all know, but i'm guessing a powerful one, although I have no clue what you're doing I think i'll help ypu, something tells me you may help me figure out who I am" Zept streched his arms out and looked at the mage, "The names Zept Hellcloud, what would yours be?"

"Rather proud of yourself aren't you." Aegis returned to Zept. 'Strange how one goes from being hated by all to popular in a matter of minutes.' He mumbled to himself. Aegis reached out his slender hand and gently touched the rod the elf had presented, unsure what the reaction might be, magical items had a way of refusing the touch of certain individuals. To his relief he was able to touch the object without harm. Studying the item for a moment Aegis thought his findings quite intriguing.

"The study of magical artifacts is something I devote much time to, no doubt that is the reason you were brought to me, here. You would not have been able to enter my study, and this is the first time I have been out in years." He told his newfound companion. "This item will take more study than I can give it here, when my current task is complete I will explore it further."

Taking a step back he took in both of the men, a strange pair indeed, he hoped that he wasn't being foolish by considering their company on his search for the demon. "Very well, I am in need of a warrior or two for my task." Noting both men nodding their heads in acceptance, Aegis felt the need to add. "I do not tolerate idiots well, I certainly hope the two of you have a decent amount of wits about you. . . my name is Aegis, that is all you need know about me for the moment. Now, lets be on our way."

Turning to the elf woman, still standing beside him, Aegis gave a small bow, and started away.

Airelot followed Aegis silently, a mage. He had heard stories during his travels, but the presance of magic users was scarce these days. Yet he felt a sensation he'd not felt in any of the time he could remember, he was calm, the nervous feelings of all his recollection, the sence of doubt that had haunted him for so long seemed vacant in the presance of this ancient magus. Normally this would seem like a relief, but he for one had grown accustomed to that sence of urgency and fear. He felt his palm move from his hip, the feeling returned, he looked down to see the device glowing again, "Master Aegis, this has only happened once before," he pointed toward the device, "It was when the device led me to you, it seems to be tracking something."
