DarkWind enjoyed the atmosphere of the inn - filled with confusion and Chaos. She fed on it and grew strong. Relinquishing her material form, she joined with the dancing shadows in the building and carefully made her way towards her prey...

Darius's opponent had approached the group and for a brief moment, the Shadowmancer hesitated uncertain whether she could be detected or not. But her strength had grown much in recently days, her defenses were nearly twice as powerful as they had once been.

Hovering near enough to observe and listen, DarkWind's alert green eyes watched everything and remembered everything.

“For now, I am fine, thank you. As for what happened, let’s just say that our enemies are more or less on top of us, and are bent on getting that map.”

The Shadowmancer smiled to herself, "More than you realize she thought. She was careful to stay near the one known as Dyami as a part of the shadows and avoid her material form making her much harder to be sensed, and even harder to pinpoint when she was.

As she watched her tending her wounds, DarkWind knew this one wanted a face-off. Still, the Shadowmancer was not one to seek out open confrontation. She had patience, she would wait. Both for Dyami to make her move...and for the map to make its appearence.

Dack and the others wouldn't take long to get moving, but he wasn't familiar enough with this town to be sure of how to get through it quickly. "Does anyone know their way around this place?" he asked. Luckily for him, their new member, Svartnir, said he did. Why not, he'd been here longer than the rest of them. So they agreed he'd lead them out. Dack didn't think it would take too long, he was wrong.

When they reached the streets they were choked with people in some form of odd celebration. It had just broken out from what Dack could tell, but the throngs of bodies were already making moving difficult. Chris had no problem wading though the crowd, but the others had to do everythin short of brawl their way out in order to stay together. It took them nearly an hour to get a few blocks over before they had to start taking to the alleyways to avoid the congestion. Once they were off the main paths it didn't take them long to get across town, but Dack still wasn't happy with their earlier obstacle.

Svatnir, the new member of their group lead Chris and the rest of them into the streets where they were met with a huge crowd of people. A better word would be a SEA of people. To Chris it seemed they may be in a festival of some sort. Chris, being the largest of the group had the upper hand on making his way through the people, but still, even he had much trouble. They travelled this way for over an hour, wading through the sea of people, making only a few blocks of progress, until Svatnir finally startiing going by the intriecint workway of alleyways, and even at some spots rooftops.

In time, they had made it to the outskirts of the city, into what seemed to be some sort of rocky outcrop. Chris hoped it wouldn't lead into a mountian range. Chris was a bad climber, just to say the least, and a mountian range would make the travel hard and slow for him and his companions.

They continued along the rocky outcrop for quite some time until they stopped for a quick rest. Let me emphasize quick. It was probballyl less than a mintue break when they started off again along the rocky outcrop.

Dack took the map away suddenly and said that they weren't alone. And he was right, Svartnir and Aelor could both feel a small vibration in the air. Like an energy trace. Aelor noticed his brother looking at the back door, as if he saw something. But when Aelor asked about it, he just nod his head and said it was nothing.

They all rushed out of the inn into the mass of people. It was some sort of celebration. Svartnir couldn't remeber what it was about, the mayors birthday or something as silly anyway. He didn't even really care. He just wanted to take his new group out of that place as soon as possible. It seemed there was some troubles going on with some other group. What he had understood from Aelors talking was that they were after the same artifact. Except that they wanted to take it to the dark gods. How interesting, he had tought to himself.

They had to take a round way to get to the otherside of the city, but soon they were there. Aelor looked around and asked with a worried voice, looking at Dack:

''Where is Dyami, she didn't follow us through the town, I - -''

''You better stay with us, Aelor'', Svartnir said and grapped his sleave when he was about to go off wondering. Aelor nod and looked at the others.
He had no idea where he would have even tried to find Dyami and he called himself stupid for playing a babysitter like that. He didn't even know which way they would go to find the artifact. So he waited for commands and then followed. Svartnir followed right after him.

They managed to get to the area Dynami had told them to go. As Dack had expected she wasn't within plain sight. She was an assassin, and those types generally liked to stay hidden. He hadn't seen her in a while, but he knew she was alright, the dagger from the inn was unquestionably hers. But he wa wondering about the coloring of the blood on the weapon. Purple? Guess he wasn't the only one who was holding back information about themself.

Aelor voiced his concerns rather quickly. He would have been lost if Svartnir hadn't talked some sence into him. Dack looked over to the elf as they all took a position where Dynami could find them easily, "Don't worry about her, if anyone here can handle moving through a city alone, it's deffinately Dynami." Now began the part Dack hated most about adventuring, waiting for everyone to regroup. At least Dynami shouldn't take too long.

Not far from where the group was meeting, Stag walked.

His footfalls were silent, and the demi-nymph was oblivious to the presence of the strange collection of artifact-seekers. His hood was up, as always, and were it not for the strands of hair that fell onto his chest, you would almost think there was nothing but darkness in place of a face.

There was something uncertain about Stag's gait, he'd been quite disorientated for some time. There was evil brewing- the air stank of it and the wind whispered of it. He'd only been trying to head to the nearest town, where he could contribute to the merrymaking and hopefully earn his next meal- but something had compelled him to step off the beaten roads. It was this same instinct that had lead him here.

Tiring, he closed his eyes and stood still. Sensing nothing too inimical nearby, he continued, finding an area suitable for rest. Sitting down on a rock, Stag began to sing- to placate any nearby beasts, and to channel the intense loneliness he'd been feeling for so long. His song was wordless and had little tune, yet Stag's voice resonated off the rocks- beautiful and heart breaking.

Dack and the others could easily hear and locate the sound- magically, it instilled them all with a feeling of peace. Stag looked to the sky.

What was taking them so long? Dyami had already dressed her wounds and was now sitting quietly in a tree, twiddling around one of her daggers. Did they get ambushed after she jumped from rooftop to rooftop to get out of the overcrowded town? It wouldn’t surprise her. As if being summoned by her own silent complaints, Dyami spotted the others trudging along and finally taking a rest. Aelor seemed to be still worried about her and was even willing to look for her. She couldn’t help but feel honored of being the center of so much concern… even though it was uncalled for. Luckily, he had his brother and Dack to talk some sense into him.

Dyami made no attempt to go to them for a moment: she needed to know if they were being followed. Dyami concentrated on the area trying to feel out those who wished to remain hidden… there… she could sense the shadowbeing, she was close; yet Dyami couldn’t pinpoint exactly where. Hm. It seems they have caught on to her shadowblade honed talent and was taking extra precautions… farther away, Dyami could sense the mage… she was too far away to be much of a threat at this moment, but Dyami made sure she would keep tabs on her. There was also another nearby… He was male; his presence was a mixture of darkness and light, his aura also seemed to blend in with the nature around him, hence, why Dyami couldn’t sense him before this moment. Just as her concentration grew stronger on this other, music rose from his location. It was so sweet and beautiful. Curiosity won out, the others could wait a bit longer.

Dyami made her way from tree to tree, finally reaching a spot behind this being where she silently perched. His singing was beautiful… yet, to Dyami, so sad. It reminded her painfully of her home with the other assassins. Dyami could also feel a kind of magic softly swirling with the music as well, it had an aura of sweet softness and peace; something that Dyami could care less about… but the sorrow… that in itself was a kind of beauty. Dyami shifted her tail ever so slightly to the melody; unfortunately it was enough to turn the being’s attention onto her, stopping the music. His face couldn’t be seen through the shadow of his hood… then again, only Dyami’s eyes showed through hers. Well, no point in standing there like a fool, she might as well speak. “I apologize for interrupting. Your singing talent is quite remarkable. I couldn’t help but wonder who the singer was...?”

More then that, Dyami was quite curious why the song was so mournful, was it why he hid his face so thoroughly? Hm… yet another being of secrets and mystery…. This was turning out to be quite an interesting day.

Stag had closed his eyes, lost in the emotion of the song when he sensed an odd presence nearby. He stopped immediately, fixing his gaze in the direction of Dyami. She was an odd looking being- with her hood revealing nothing but a pair of eyes. Certainly not your run-of-the-mill human- and then the being spoke. “I apologize for interrupting. Your singing talent is quite remarkable. I couldn’t help but wonder who the singer was...?”

Stag chuckled, bowing his head at the compliment before replying, "They call me Stag. And you are..." The demi-nymph cocked his head to the side, reading the wind. Though this talent certainly wasn't developed, it served as a useful party-trick every now and then. The wind spoke of things he didn't understand, and most of all of darkness- but amongst this he could pick out a name. "You are Dyami of the Shadowblade Klan"

Standing, Stag gave an elven sort of bow- swooping and graceful. "A pleasure to meet you, Lady Dyami." He hummed a few notes absent-mindedly, before doing a sort of double-take. "Ah...I can sense some others nearby."

The music had drawn DarkWind's attention as well, but for an entirely different reason. A creature of Chaos, she found music (a creation made up entirely of harmony) an interruption to her senses. Still, she had no choice but to follow Dyami towards it. She made sure, though, to keep her distence, not knowing if the music would reveal her presence or not.

She had to keep an eye on Dyami. She could do that from a safe distence.

As they stood something strange began to happen. He heard some sort of song not too far off. It wasn't something he could describe, but he was sure it was a sound he liked all the same. He'd heard stories about something like this around this nation, but he figued it was just a myth. It seemed everyone else heard it too. They all started to move toward the sound when something else happened Dack hadn't expected.

There was a rumbling as several trees were tossed aside by a being of mass unlike anything Dack had seen in a long time. Dack's sword flew from it's sheath as he prepaired for battle, the others did the same. Suddenly from the trees a smaller quicker being appeared and began attacking the big demon. Dack didn't get a good look at him before he was thrown back into the forest, but he had a feeling he'd seen him before.

Something was wrong, he'd seen the small character cut the demon several times, but it's wounds quickly healed, and Dack believed it's size increased a bit as well. "So he feeds on combat eh? Well, let's see what he's made of!" the elf shouted as he rushed the beast. As was expected he was easily knocked aside. But he was quickly back on his feet and ready for another go. He wasn't ready to give up the blind rush strategy just yet, but he'd need to think of something new quick if he was going to become anything more than a punching bag for this monster.

"They call me Stag.” Said the singer. “And you are..." Stag cocked his head to the side, as if listening to a secret that only he could hear. . "You are Dyami of the Shadowblade Klan." Impressive! Plucking a name out of thin air was no simple task, especially since Stag did not weave a spell to find it. What else could this being learn from nothing? The thought itself was both interesting and disturbing. "A pleasure to meet you, Lady Dyami." The being continued with a graceful bow. Dyami couldn’t help but smile as Stag hummed a few notes while rising. He sure knew how to make a good first impression, even with his face hidden. "Ah...I can sense some others nearby." And, like Dyami, Stag was able to sense what cannot be seen. Well well, of all the strange and interesting men Dyami had met of late, Stag was rising very quickly on the list… Dyami’s interest was almost bordering on attraction of this being just within a few sentences.

“Yes, I am traveling with a… peculiar group to say the least, I….” Before Dyami could continue, she felt a strong, almost painful vibration of magic from what was to be the group’s future destination. Dyami recognized the aura of magic instantly: Firebane. Somehow, the sorceress had grown immensely stronger within a few days. For ONCE could she not be interrupted when she was in the middle of a conversation? Dyami only had time for that one thought before it came and flew right over them. The creature…. It was a demon; a being from the same place as the creature that instilled Dyami’s abnormal features! And worse yet, it was heading straight for the group. Dam! Dyami gave a short nod to Stag before she ran off towards the danger.

As she approached the place where the demon landed, a human was flung into a tree a few meters away from her… Darius??!?!? He must have teleported close while she was distracted by Stag’s arrival. Dyami approached him and almost instinctively looked him over: if this man was to fight her again, she didn’t want any injuries or spells to get in the way of an honorable victory. “Is women plaguing you with ill will every step you take part of your curse?” Dyami asked sarcastically…. no major injuries, he will be fine soon enough.

“It seems that way.” Darius said after he realized who she was. “Though at this moment, it seems that your group shares in my fate.” He nodded with a smirk toward the others who were now all desperately fighting the demon. With every stroke, the being swelled with more and more power… He must feed off of pain, battle, or chaos. Dyami thought quickly… How do you defeat a creature like that? Another thing she was sensing as well… Dack. He was fighting blindly and with all the strength he could muster, his actions only feeding their giant opponent. But there was also something else starting to stir within him. Yet another reason to think quickly.

Just then, Stag came to her side, although she could see no facial features, his body and voice spoke volumes of confusion and a touch of fear. “What the??!?” That’s it!

“Stag, do you know any sort of healing magic? If not, can you sing again? You have a talent to bring calmness to chaos… maybe such a thing could weaken the creature.”

“And what do you plan to do?” Dyami, fixated on the battle, could not tell if Stag was serious or sarcastic.

“I need to stop Dack.” And with that, she was off, leaving a lot of things up in the air, hoping that she could stop Dack from making the situation any worse.

Stag glanced at the small group of adventurers he had suddenly been exposed too. Watching the mysterious Dyami leave, he tried to read the names of each of these new faces- but the heat of battle made it difficult. He instead focused on this immense demon.

A voice came from his side- with it he sensed a crackle of power. ''HEAL THE DAMN THING!'', she screamed at them, ''it will...ugh...kill it..''

He thought of what Dyami, and this other being had said, and bringing out a small stringed instrument, began to play. Before he sang, he wondered whether this would work. A great thinker had once told him that the opposite of war was creation.

Letting out a constant, sweet note, he began to think of closing every wound, mending every scar and a white aura began to surround him. The bard was, in fact, mimicking the sound of a phoenix. Stag focused on purifying and healing this giant abomination.

Two more attacks with a similar result and Dack was beginning to think this wasn't the way to go. He got to his feet once again and tried to think of a new strategy. Dynami suddenly showed up next to him. "Dack, that plan isn't working. Unless you've got some way to reverse those effects I suggest you sit out of this one," she said. Normally Dack hated being corrected, but by now he knew not to argue with Dynami, she was much more attuned to seeing other's abilities than he was.

He thought of something then. His sword and the demon were alike, they fed off of others. If he could find a way to force the blade into the demon's body, maybe it could stop him from gaining strength. But he was sure. That would have worked fine back home, but this wasn't home. And if this place had taught him anything, trying something outlandish in a life or death situation could kill you just as easily as help you. After a moments hesitation he slowly put the blade back in it's scabbard. Looked like he wasn't going to get to have a good normal fight for a while.

Both Aelor and Svartnir first fought against the huge demon. They didn't fully understand what the black wich ment by saying they should heal the creature until Dyami came and told them to stop.
Her new companion, near where the wich was on her knees, started make a healing spell. And it seemed to work! The beast screamed, this time for pain and not joy and started to shrink and dissappeare.

In few moments it was all over. Aelor went to congratulate Dyami for knowing what to do, but Svartnir walked to the place where the black wich had fallen to the ground. She was still breathing, but all color had escaped from her skin and it was almost as white as her hair. At that moment, he didn't really know what to do..

DarkWind laughed with glee - her joy bordering on hysteria. The immense rush of Chaos brought about by the arrival of the demon brought her close to ecstasy. There was so little required of her, and yet she gained so much.

Enjoying the surge of the strength that coarsed through her, DarkWind watched the members of the party scurry around attempting to vanquish the massive beast. Soon the one, Dyami, found the answer and it very nearly broke the Shadowmancer's heart to see it destroyed.

Oh, yes...these companions were something else. Strange, resiliant, and resourceful. She would enjoy watching them fall.

The beast seemed unbeatable! It fed off of their attacks. Which each of their blows the monster got stronger! By Huma's Lance and Paladines Soul! How would they defeat this, this, Demon!

They continued attacking it but it just got stronger, and it even got bigger! Suddenly a plan was made. Heal it! Chris saw no logic to this at first. Heal it? That would make it unbelivibly strong, dare say, stronger than if was now! But after thinking it over Chris realizied the logic. Chris let out a smile. Heal the damned abomination!, he thought to himself.

Finally a healing spell was cast. A horrible screech was let out and the beast fell to the ground. He soon realized it was another new companion that had cast the spell. The group was getting larger, and most likely stronger with both of the new arrivals, but Chris wasn't to sure. Why now all of a sudden are they picking up a bunch of new members. Was he the only one with ANY common sense. He hated to be a hermit about this, but he liked the group better before. Ah, well. He was losing any leadership he had once had, if the leadership had ever excisted at all. He realzed that these guys weren't here for what he had originally thought, and they most defenitly weren't the same companions he had met with at the beginning. They had changed. For better of for worse. For worse.

As the beast fell Dack got up again and looked for whatever it had been that had caused it's fall. Then he saw whatever it was. It was male from what Dack could tell, but it didn't move like any creature Dack had met in a good long while. Then he thought to what he'd heard during the battle. It had been singing. Singing with an odd harmony, almost in a way that would have been dreadful to hear from any other creature. Now he realised exactly what this new comer was. He'd never been this close to a dryad before, but he wasn't going to make a big commotion over that either. Besides, there were two others that had appeared during the fighting.

The small character that had leapt from the trees was apparently long gone. No matter, Dack recognised him as Chris' enemy from that other group. He looked over to the slumped body that Svartnir was tending to. Black robes and a staff. It didn't take a scholar to see she was a mage. Was she from that other group too? Dack recalled a mage among them, but she had been much larger. Dack wasn't sure he liked having what he assumed was a dark mage from her color in the group. With a glance he could tell Chris wasn't too sure about any of their recent allies either.

The difference was that Dack had been on enough adventures to know not everyone was a wolf in sheep's clothing, although he'd be keeping an eye on the new mage. But still, Chris had already earned the elf's trust, he'd hear him out; Dack owed him that by now. He walked up next to the minotaur.

"I'm not any more sure about these new comers than you are. But by now we both have some trust in Aelor, and he'll vouch for Svartnir. As for the one with the covered face, his aura is pure. I'm not too sure about the mage, but if she tries something I've got your back if you've got mine. And don't worry, I haven't forgotten about the promise we all made to the paladin," Dack said, making what eye contact he could on the minotaur who was a full foot taller than him.

Chris looked down at him, and for a moment he was silent, thinking over what Dack had said. The elf knew Chris wouldn't attack him, but for that moment he couldn't help but realise just how intimidating Chris was. Even in minotaur terms. But after that long period of silence. Chris spoke to him. "Are you willing to swear what you just said Dack?"

Now it was Dack's turn to be silent for a moment. That put an aweful lot of responsibility on his shoulders. Chris seemed like he was doubting everyone in the party, and swearing on what he'd said almost put full responsibility for the actions of the others on Dack if he understood the minotaur on what he knew of him so far. Finally he desided it was worth it. In a party of adventurers trust meant everything. And so Dack stuck out his hand and with his trademark smirk he said just three words, "On my honor." Chris let out a short laugh and shook the elf's hand, sealing the deal. Dack didn't know just how much honor meant to Chris, but he knew where he came from swearing on your honor was swearing on your own head.

Within moments after bringing Dack to his senses, the demon collapsed with a screech of anguish. Dyami was pleased that her guess was a correct one. Stag finished his song and everyone gathered to converse. Aelor was the first to come to Dyami. “Dyami! That was amazing! I am glad that you are ok…..” As Aelor talked on, Dyami realized that his innocence and blatant attraction to her had lost its allure. True, he was attractive, but she had learned his past and the depths of his spirit and had found it too light for her liking… Aelor and Dyami where too different from each other to be anything more then friends. When all important matters were done and the excitement had died down, she knew she would have to tell Aelor this…. But for now…

“Thank you Aelor, but I do not disserve all the credit. It if it was not for Stag here, we all would have been trying to find a way to kill that demon.” Dyami said, introducing Stag to the others. “I also think he disserves to know exactly who he has just rescued and why such a creature would be after us in the first place.” Dyami continued, raising her voice to Dack and Chris who were off to the side a bit, talking among themselves. Now… to see fi that creature was actually dead.

“What about her?” Said Svartnir as Dyami broke from the others while they introduced themselves to Stag. He was pointing to the unconscious Elvin black mage. Dyami recognized her immediately. Hm… this was an awkward situation.

“She was in league with what was once our rival group… if that group even exists anymore. She was also the invisible spy who was at the Inn which warned you about with my dagger.” Dyami said. Which reminded her; did anyone grab her dagger from the table? She would have to ask later. “But, she has also had a great loss of late, and judging that battle, the one who sent that demon is a mutual enemy to us both. From what I can tell, that other mage will be our greatest obstacle between us and the end.” Dyami gave a shrug as she finished her description. “We should either kill this one or do everything we can to heal her. Either way, I hate leaving a job half-done.” Dyami was not leader and did not want to be. It was not her decision on what should be done about this mage. Now… that demon….

Dyami walked to the demon which now lay quite lifeless. That’s odd… Dyami was sure the healing spell wouldn’t have killed the creature entirely…. There was more then Firebane’s aura about this being… the shadow being. Dyami did a more through inspection of the creature, and found bite marks puncturing the skin. Was it Darius? Dyami didn’t know, but she had a sinking feeling she would find out soon enough.

Svartnir felt a wave of anger going through him as Dyami talked about killing the black mage. His eyes narrowed as he looked at the females back who was now going to the demons body. The mage was still lying on the ground. Svartnir kneeled at her side and lifted her up. Aelor came at him with a smile on his face.

''Well, that was one hell-of-a-battle, wasn't it? Did you see that guy who has hidden his face? I guess we should thank him for saving our bony arses, eh?'', he said and poked Svartnir to his arm. The kagonesti aswered with a cold voice:
''We should also thank this mage. She held th --''
''Are you out of your mind?! She was with the others, I saw her withing with Egrin!''

Svartnir looked at his brother for a moment, put the mages body back to the ground and gave his brother a good punch on the face. Aelor cried out and held his nose. It wasn't broken, but it was bleeding wildly. He looked at Svartnir and yelled at him with kagonesti language, cursing him and asking what this was about almost jumping at him to fight. Svartnir just said that he was a fool who didn't understand. Aelor punched him back and walked away. He walked by the demons body and Dyami who was investigating it. She looked at Aelor in wonder and tried to say something, but Aelor just looked at her with narrowed eyes that were full of hatred. It made Dyami shut her trap.

Svartnir swiped his nose and attended to the mage again. He herd someone asking if she would need some healing, but he asnwered that she only needed sleeping after performing large amount of spells without any rest for a while. He held her in his arms and took her closer to where the others were standing with the new comer. He wouldn't let them kill her, it was sure. But he was willing to listen what others thought of her and what they should do with her. And most important, when she woke up, what she would do with them?

“I also think he disserves to know exactly who he has just rescued and why such a creature would be after us in the first place.” Dyami continued, raising her voice to Dack and Chris.

Both of them looked over to her without turning their heads. She was talking about the cloaked one no doubt. Dack would get to that. For now he felt a bit of tension coming from Svartnir. Dynami mentioned her oppinion on the dark mage. Aelor's brother didn't like the option of killing her. That became obvious right away when he even went so far as to punch Aelor right in the face. Dack loosed his sword in it's scabbrd. This problem was quickly resolved as Aelor returned the punch and stormed off. Dack took his hand away from his sword after returning it to a rest position.

To some degree Dack could understand what Svartnir was thinking. She had helped them. But Dack had been doing this adventure thing far too long to turn his back on a brother because of something like that. It might have been different if Svartnir had been with them for the entire journey. If he'd met Egrin. Still, Dack wasn't going to fight Svartnir about this either, after all, he could be right.
