I just heard it on E!, that ROTK will be out on dvd on May 25. No word on the release date of the EE
According to everything I've read the EE should be out "in time for the holidays" whatever that means???
Great news though that the DVD is to be released at the same time in the UK and the USA though - means the Uk doesn't have to wait for ages longer - much fairer!
Didn't it say that the DVD would be $29.95? That sounds much higher than the last two DVD's where selling for.
I love how much earlier it is being released. Hopefully the EE comes out earlier than november too!
Just pre-ordered the DVD for £15.99 (list price £27.99) - that's about $30 in the US at the moment.
It does seem pretty expensive but it looks like the DVD''s going to be packed with extra stuff:
A Journey Completed: A Director's Vision
A Filmmaker's Journey: Making "The Return of the King"
The National Geographic special feature
Multiple Lordoftherings.net featurettes:
Aragorn's Destiny feature
Minas Tirith feature
Battle of Pelennor Fields feature
Samwise the Brave feature
Eowyn, White Lady of Rohan feature
Digital Horses feature
Original theatrical trailers and TV spots
Lord of the Rings Trilogy super trailer

I can't wait, it's grea that it is sooner, but it still seems a long wait.
Dude this is awesome, but what about the freaking extended edition dvd preview?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I can't go that long without having a little peep at what's going to be on it.
The Extended Edition is will be realeased around the Holidays.
yes they did say that it will be released during the holidays, but what about the preview to it?
Im hoping that the extended edition will be out in about september cuz thats wen the theatrical edition for TTT was released last year and i hope they will go that route! ROTK is by far the best! Rexone :stupid:
It's not looking like there's going to be a preview to the EE DVD on the theatrical DVD. Checked out the official website for the film this morning and they've not listed a preview as one of the special features on the theatrical DVD.
You can get the Theatrical DVD on Amazon.com for $17.97... they don't take pre-orders but they have it where they will notifiy you via e-mail the moment it goes on sale with them.
I just sold my two EE DVD sets to a friend, I'll just pop into Costco the week the theatrical DVD set (all 3 movies) comes out, but that, and use that to substitute for the lack of the EE versions until the ROTK EE comes out... maybe they'll have a complete set with the EEs also?
Yes. There is planned for 2005 sometime a set with all three extended editions of the movies as well as even more additional material (as of yet unspecified). This was according to PJ in some interviews that showed up on http://www.theonering.net
I can't wait for the EE... I just read the article and it says there will be between 45 and 60 minutes of new footage!!! yippeeeee!!!
it better be 60
EE set in 2005? Boy I can't wait that long! i've already parted with my old set of EE FOTR and TTT, I have to wait until 2005 to get the ultimate EE set? How on Earth am I supposed to do that??? (I already have to wait until Nov to get a EE... no EE with me right now)
The more additional footage, the better. I really hope they put the real ending onto the movie, with the battle in the Shire.
45 mins most likely to be, from what i read when ROTK was just out in december.
I'd like to see it too, but unfortunately, it was never even filmed. PJ completely cut that portion of the book without ever intending to put it in an extended version.
Didn't Frodo see abit of the industrialisation of the Shire and what could happen to it when he looked into Galadriel's mirror?
I suppose that's the nearest we're going to get and the most we're going to see of the real ending to the book - sigh! -
But it's still a fabulous film and - oooh! - as much extra footage as possible please!?* Hope the EE comes out over here when it does for you guys in the US - asap!
