I'm not able to fit this into any of the existing threads so I'm starting this one.

Not much new regarding the movie itself, but at the MPAA movie ratings database, Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King Sepcial Extended Edition is rated at PG-13 (Search here).

The theatrical is also rated at PG-13. So it doesn't tell us anything about the movie. But what this means is that the MPAA has already seen the finished edit of the Extended Edition.

Haven't seen this around yet, so thought you guys might want to know.

This is good news. But in a way it's also rather aggravating to know that it's finished, but not yet for sale! I can't wait until November or December!

I agree, this is torture! One would say that we were "patient" enough to wait for TTT and RotK when we all first saw FotR, but it's killing me that it's going to be months until the extended is finally out! All this waiting is going to give me gray hairs lol.

After this DVD, all we will have to wait for then is a possible Hobbit movie, its DVD release, and maybe a possible extended version. But who knows really.

Well, there also seems to be a Trilogy DVD coming out with all 3 of the EE versions PLUS new stuff in 2005...

Wouldn't it be great if there was like a super-extended special edition version down the line? Each movie being like five hours long...

it would be even greater if they, say, added a bunch of stuff from the books (Old Forest, Barrow-Downs, Scouring of the Shire, etc) for the Special Trilogy Editions (<- the title of the versions for 2005, if you wanted to know).

*eyes get big* Oooooo The Scouring of the Shire? That's a good one. I would LOVE if they added that. But really, what are the odds?

Nil, to be exact :). Since PJ never shot that and has said that he never liked that part of the book... to bad... but really, as I think was discussed somewhere else in one of the threads here, it'd be a bit hard to add that to the movie, particularly because of the other changes that were made through out the adaptation, some of which have significant impact of the storyline of the Scouring...

I'm pretty sure the Extended Edition is coming out in December. As for The Hobbit, MGM also has rights to The Hobbit. Plus, PJ is wraped up in King Kong. Sure someone else could direct The Hobbit, but it wouldn't be hardly as good as LotR unless if PJ directed it.
