Can someone explain to me how reddit works?

I mean I know it's a forum. But I can't for the life of me figure out how to navigate the forums (or subreddits?). There doesn't seem to be any type of traditional menu to browse for what you're looking for. You can find things with a search, but it seems like forums that are there one day, I can't find another day.

It seems like a ton of people use reddit, so I'd like to create an account, but not until I figure out how it works, and I feel dense not knowing.

I just found subreddit Fantasy via google once and just bookmarked it

    Reddit Fantasy • r/Fantasy

Now I just keep coming back to it when I want
Create now tread called Submit Text - big greed button at the right hand side. I think the rest is more or less intuitive.
    Hope that will help.

You have gotten the gist of it - it isn't really a traditional forum but more like a chaotic ever evolving collection of subreddits that come and go. I've found it easiest to just google reddit <term you are interested in> and seeing what subreddits pop up.
