Just thought I'd create a thread for the prononciations in ASOIAF, such as Jaime, Daenerys, and Arya. I've always pronounced Jaime as JAME, Daenerys as DAYN-er-ES and Arya as ARE-YAH, though Ive heard people say AR-E-AH.

So, anyone got any odd names to pronounce ? Or the proper ones for the names above ?

    Re: Prononcuiations

this is what I think, though I could be wrong.

Tyrion Lannister : Teer - ee - ohn
    Arya : Arr - ya
    Sansa : Sann - za
    Jaime : Jame

I can't think of any others that arn't already obvious.

Ive been saying DAYN-AIR-ES. What about Targaryen ? I read two prononciations of it, TAR-GAR-YEN (how I say it) and TAR-GAR-EE-EN.

    Re: Prononcuiations

Okay, I heard in an interview that Jaime is JAY-ME and Arya is AR-YA. From the lips of GRRM himself.

How do people pronounce R'hllor and Jalabhar Xho ?

For me its RA-LORE and JAL-a-BAR ZO

    Re: Prononcuiations

    Jaime = Jamie?!

tsk tsk. I would have disagree with GRRM's choice of names in that case.

    Re: Prononcuiations

I wanted to bring this thread back. Not because anyone is probably going to change anyone else's pronunciation, but because I want to see how big of a freak everyone is. ;)

    Let's start with the Martell's.

    Arianne (ARE-E-ANN)
Oberyn (O-BRR-EN) Now that I'm thinking about it it should probably be O-BEAR-YEN.
    Doran (DOOR-ANN)
    Elia (E-LIE-A)

    Anyone else?
