I find it incredibly amusing that no-one picked me up on the 'I don't care enough about humanity to be left-wing' quote.:D

Indeed, but those who believe such tripe are invariably fascists and therefore deserve all the ridicule that rains down on their pointy little heads. :D

What in particular is confusing you? I can't think of any statements I've made on this forum that are contradictory. >.>

I'm a conservative, though not an ultra right-wing one. I hate Neocons as much as I hate Marxists (I'd hate Nomina too if I though he was actually serious about being a Marxist and wasn't just trying to provoke a reaction). Of course, I'm also a misanthrope, which ultimately means I hate pretty much everyone on this festering sore of a planet. A political party hasn't been invented yet that caters to the utter contempt I feel for humanity.

I find this amusing, or, at least confusing, TCE...

So, you find that humanity simply fails in whatever it's doing - but want things to stay as they are?

As far as I'm concerned humanity should move aside and let another species gain ascendancy. As I haven't the power to accomplish this, however, I sink into a well of conservatism. Were our species capable of rising up out of the mire, I would gladly cast aside conservatism in favour of something more dynamic and aspirational. Sadly, homo sapiens will never reach that point where the falling angel meets the rising ape. Thus I fester in a stew of bitterness and cynicism. Also, I never made claims to be consistent.:D

Your problem is that you're an idealist. Only idealists care enough about humanity to be bitter when it falls short. If you were truly a misanthrope you wouldn't care at all.:p

But you also state you're a conservative. And conservatives, by nature, want things to continue to be as they are - or have been. How's that match up with the above statement? :p

My definition of conservatism is more in line with Edmund Burke's: i.e. the masses are asses (to put it crudely). As I alluded to previously, I believe that if change is impossible stasis is preferable (at least to me, and at least when compared to the alternative).:)

There is no alternative. Humanity is a blight. Until a meteor comes along to wipe the earth clean of the infection we have no choice but to live with it. Or, preferably, withdraw from it as much as possible. Not an optimistic point of view, I accept, but then I'm not an optimistic type of guy.

Being sour and bitter doesn't preclude recognising the innate hopelessness and ludicrousness of the human condition. I can laugh at myself. It's just the rest of humanity that makes me cry.

It's called hypocrisy. Sadly it doesn't matter whether you're left or right when it comes to such things.

Why? Existance itself might be considered hopeless and ludicrous. **** the rest of humanity they can manage on their own as they have for millenia, just help em along the way should you wish so.
