Half-assed socialized healthcare, I'd rather pay the higher taxes, at my pay rate the government isn't likely to jack up my taxes 10% more of my pay a month like the insurance company will. Actual healthcare I support, everyone who works shouldn't have to worry about being in debt for the rest of their life when in an emergency situation. If you don't think I'm doing anything and everything I can think of to get ahead you'd be mistaken, I don't want to be in this position in any way, but here I am anyway. Not to say I haven't heard the logic of the women I worked with who did seem to equate kids with more government assistance, but that wasn't what I was referring to.

It would be telling ME to sleep around. My comment applies to my situation in specific, because I have neither a gf nor am married and thus the only way I could possibly have a child is if I were sleeping around. The fun part is how much extra it is would more than enough.

It's not telling ANYONE to sleep around. It is simply saying "You don't have kids." Now, unless they told you specifically "HEY GO SLEEP AROUND" then you are taking what they are saying out of completely the wrong way. I also have no idea what you mean by

The SSI includes stipends for both the adult and the child. Sitting on my butt at home with a kid would double my income if I got the full benefits through the three things I'd qualify for. Of course, I'd rather find a real job, but its rather annoying.

Part of the Affordable Care Act is the creation of “health care trades.” The trades will essentially be online areas where individuals can shop for health insurance. The states are supposed to create them, but those that don't will get a federal exchange enforced on them. Resource for this article: bad credit loan but not payday loan

    i think this is related?
reading about a Government shutdown in the US, not entirely sure what's going on, so bear with me, i'm not looking to start an argument or get into a capitalist vs socialist fight, just wanting to know why the US government is shutting down, info here is rather sketchy, theres talk of defaulting on debt, being broke etc

ok, so what happens now? can't they be made to, i dunno, do something??

i don't have a reference, as i don't understand the way your political system operates, but in the 1970's here we had a situation of the senate blocking the budget, so our governor general dismissed the government, put the opposition in as a caretaker government, and called an election.
basically, fired the government because they weren't doing what they were elected to do

The Republicans are playing a game of Political Chicken, and like the last time they tried this it's not going to work. ObamaCare is law; the time for debate and compromise is long over. The national election is over and Obama was reelected easily, time for the Republicans to suck it up and let the government run again.

Not really... the government needs to be funded and as you know we are operating in the red, waaaaaaaaaay in the red. The sad thing is that our economy is doing alright at the moment, not great but at least it's been getting better, and this nonsense in Congress only hurts business and undermines confidence.

Dear god, you'd think this would have happened already. I mean electoral college AND the people TWICE elected Obama. Let the man do his job. This country's politicians are like toddlers fighting over play things. It's too bad they don't have the mentalities of adults.

Honestly I think the countries who have a constitutional monarchies are just... better, for lack of better term. Though, I'm not up to snuff on your healthcare, but places with constitutional monarchies all seem to run a lot smoother and the people tend to be better educated on their governments in general, as well.

I wish Americans weren't so afraid of socialism. I love it. They say it doesn't work, but jesus christ, look at all the countries it DOES work in. Americans really REALLY have no idea what socialism is, or the difference between socialism, communism, and dictatorship.

I abhor capitalism and calling our country a "democracy" is a joke. A complete and utter joke, with a really depressing punchline.

Jim, remember that Sparrow and Olivia are highly-biased, left-wing sources. Their arguments are hardly objective.

From my conservative, capitalist POV, I see it quite differently.

First, while the electorate did elect Obama, they also elected a Republican lower house. Why? Presumably to act as a check. Doesn't challenging the president's policies fall within that purview?

Second, Obamacare is my no means socialized medicine. It is a programme by which people are forced to buy insurance and fined heavily if they don't. Employers are required to insure employees who work more than thirty hours a week. Guess what? More and more people are getting cut to thirty hours or less.

Third, the president of the United States does not wield dictatorial power. He is one-third of the US government, no more. To get anything done, two-thirds must agree in such a way that the third will approve. The framers us the constitution designed it that way deliberately. The president is not intended to rule without the agreement of both houses. The Republicans did offer compromises that the Obama and the Democrat majority in the senate simply refused to budge on because they think they don't have to. Remember that the last votes that actually shut down the government all had 53 Democrat senators voting to shut the government down. They did so because they believe that the American people will blame the Republicans.

Fourth, surveys indicate that more people oppose Obamacare than support it. Isn't it the job of the House of Representatives to represent those people? Rasmussen Poll, Pew Poll.

Despite the one-sided politics of the majority of this website, there are two sides to the issue.
