i just thougt why dont we just clean upp all these guys whit just 1 to 10 post whos not ever online?
hmm... not kind that is... but... well.... it is no reason for them to be here....
I think that is not for us to judge or decide why they lack posting...I mean they could be very busy...or yes not interested anymore, but we don't know that. They still have the right to be members...I don't think the rules say that you have to make a certain amount of posts if you want to stay a member here.
yet maybe they should. and from my understanding, this is a privately owned forum where none are guaranteed the right to membership.
well that's your opinion, indeed this is a private forum, so it's up to the owner to decide on this, not to us.
This is really the type of problem this forum has. This is what Skyanide talked about how senior members treat new members so poorly, because they think they have the right to.
Members haven't even posted yet for a reason you don't even know and you want to rush them away?
We generally don't remove inactive members because there really isn't a good reason to,
Many forums do not allow non-members to read the entire board; although TFF isn't one of them, I'm sure that more than a few members joined for that reason.
Many, many people lurk. They post when they have something they feel worthwhile to post. I would rather see a member make only one good post than a member make 1000 posts to which none are good...
Well that varies with me...I suppose I make posts which dont make sense at all, but most of them are good!....I think
i certainly can appreciate such wisdom.
(forgive me all but this statement can do no less than strike one with wonder.)
how can you possibly make such a sanctimonious statement when your behavior recently contributed to the departure of a new member.
I knew you werer gonna say that...predictable...I didn't cause him to departure on myself first of all...and if it was a senior member...I would have acted the same...His threads were in the wrong section, but he was unfortunatly too stuborn and was unreasonable about it...I tried to convince him why it was in the wrong section.
But yeah he acted so childish but I can understand that he got riled up by what happened there since others were bashing other threads he made down, so he must have thought I wanted to do the same, while in fact I didnt...I just said it should have been moved...and I was right about that. But in a debate or arguement like that it's difficult to admit that you're wrong.
I just think that possibly by deleting the member's who have like igned up 3/4 years ago, and have made about 0-10 posts and are then no longer active would help free u space on the server?
Well, I would think that if that were the case, then instead of deleting 900 users with less than 10 posts that never caused any issues, it would be way easier to just delete one poster with 9000+ posts that can't say the same.
Hmm...would it....I wonder if it works out to be the same memory usage :S
No, I assure you that the 9000+ posts take up way more space.
Yea that's what I thought. Although I wouldn't really call a person with 0 posts and no activity since 3 years ago a "user" :S
eeehm... how do you delete your posts????:s
agree. if the noobs haven't done anything- bad or good- in like two-three years, and are just making the forum run slow (wich i hate), i am all for gently showing them the door.
but off course, if they make no such problems, let them stay!
(and btw tff is running dangerously slow on atleast one of my computers...)
Keep it up and I'll show ya.
Having members listed in the forum who don't post aren't making TFF run slow. The worst offenders for that are loading animated avatars/banners. In fact you can make TFF run faster if you disable seeing signatures, all those images take time to load, especially if you're on dialup.
Since we're *ahem* generally a welcoming forum, I see no reason not to let people sign up and lurk. Some people aren't comfortable responding in a forum setting for a long time. Some people may appreciate reading the fantasy news posted in this forum but feel no need to respond. I think it's nice that somebody signs up, posts once or twice and forgets about TFF, but if they come back for any reason to see their membership and chosen name are still valid here.
well ye all have a point there. but still i kinda hate the leavers
That happened for Aeon & myself ~ we joined May(ish), posted a few .. wandered off for a few months .. then returned in Aug
