um yeah, that helmet blows, Is that the same witchking from FOTR. They didn't have armour like that, unless it was under their shrouds or something.

And why is Pippin on the back of the horse? That's not how it goes if i remember correctly.

hmm...good point there Dalleron. He was up front.

The witchking looks like he borrowed that outfit from Cher. I thought he had a tall crown with those pointy things on top. Must have been mistaken...

    *** SPOILER ***

No your right dude in the book when he faces Gandalf he was not wearing a helmet but a crown that sat upon his head which you could'nt see except for his eyes which were like fire, plus he was ridung his horse then too. He did'nt swithch until the part when he was against eowyn/dernhelm.

Edit : I put the "spoiler" wanring for those who haven't read the books and don't know the story or feats of Dernhelm. Remember, not everyone knows what's to come, let's not ruin the surprises for them! - Mububban

I guess if you can't kill a Nazgul then you can't kill their horses either :D

Mind you I'm sure creatures as powerful as the Nazgul could turn any normal horse into one of their nasty beasts of burden.

    *** SPOILER ***

And gee, the shape of the Witchking's helm should make it pretty darn easy for Dernhelm to do what needs doing!

Ok, first thing's first. Mr. Elvenblademaster, I'm not a dude. Do dude in their right mind would have the screen name "Miriel"

And I couldn't find a referrence in the book that says that the Witchking was wearing his crown. If anyone else finds it post what it says and what chaper please.

Hi miriel_lote, I found the reference you wanted. Its in The Return of the King, Book 5 chapter IV The Siege of Gondor. Page 810 - 811.

The witchking's dragon steed thing looks awsome, but I'm not wild about the way he looks. His helm looks like a giant spikey shell and his armor looks different from the FoTR. I expected him to ride in looking like he did in FoTR , and to wear a crown instead of an incredibly ugly helm.

I too was expecting a crown and not a helm, especially becuase, well, he's the Witchking! Nothing and nobody stands in his way due to the bowel-loosening terror he invokes in his enemies. It'd be a kind of arrogant thing to not wear a helm, because you can't be destroyed by any man, and no one's going to get close enough to even try and hit you anyway.

So it would have been nice for his own arrogance to have played a part in his downfall. But I guess we'll live with what we're given :)

just for reference - "Upon it sat a shape, black mantled, huge and threatening. A crown of steel he bore"

so yes in the books he wears a crown, but these are not the books, its the films, certain things are GOING to be different

I personally think his armour and helm look pretty damn good, i wouldnt want to go to battle wearing a crown thats likely to slip about, and so what if his helmet is ugly, "bad guys" usually do make ugly items. If i was stood in front of the witchking and had to look into the pits beyond those eye sockets i know id be damn well scared

BTW, the guy has landed in the middle of the enemy city on his own, how much more arrogant do you need?

I apolgise if this post offends anybody, but i think you should wait until the films have been released before making critacisms, especially about PJ, id like to see any other director turn (in my opinion) the greatest story ever into the greatest visual epic with as much passion as he does

    YEAH!

I'm with you on that aramir. the helm looks cool, its much more practical. plus we saw the crown in TFOTR on weathertop, we dont need it again, and the CG would be shoddy havin a floating crown, it looks much, much better to continue the black facial void theme.
