Firstly i posted this on other sites maybe you came across it

    the mistake is

hermione says no one can apperate nor disappearate in the castle for it is protected

yet the elf dobby appearate and disappearate as he wishes in both book and movies

part is when he appearates at the side of the bed of harry potter when harry was injured and was told of the chamber being reopened .

again in the movie and book where dobby and creature appearates to harry to report on where malfoud was going, and even Ron qoutes that he would like to be as good as dobby in appearating and disappearating for he is having trouble with this aspect of magic.

Now is it only humans bound by this law or is this a mistake.

Jo has actually answered this one:

House Elves are exempt from that rule because they have a different branch of magic to the Humans. It allows them to apparate in various parts of the Castle so that they can tend to their duties more efficiently, it's a loophole... No human can apparate or disapparate in Hogwarts. It also allows them to apparate out of their Master's heavily warded homes. Like Dobby could to talk to Harry in CoS. Lucius Malfoy would probably have to walk to a safe spot on his grounds to apparate from.

Of all the mistakes, that's the one you pick?

My favourite is the way, in book 1, Hagrid says that there was never a wizard that went bad who wasn't in Slytherin (presumably he's excluding those who didn't go to Hagwarts). However, at the time he belives that Sirius Black, a Gryffindor I think, had been Voldemort's spy.

I dont find that a mistake really....when I read it I never took it literally, just a generalization to state that alot of "bad" wizards are from slytherin.

I thought he was a bit specific and extreme for a generalisation, Alchemist.

Rhapsody, if you're going to pick on me, I'll... I'll sulk! :(

Now, I'm not sure about this one, I may have the details wrong... are the Hogwarts students picked up by the school carriages to take them back to the bus at the end of the year in book 4? I'm almost certain they are. If that's the case, why doesn't Harry see the thestrals until the next year? (If they don't, can somebody please tell me because I don't have a copy of the book to look it up).

JK Rowling has been asked this one and she answered somewhat like this:

"Harry couldn't see the Thestrals then because the death was still too fresh in his mind and he hadn't yet come to terms with it. When the summer holidays were over he had come to terms with it and therefore he could see them."

hmmmm pretty lame answer if u ask me.. seems like she just didn't realise it. and i was also going to say, shouldn't haryy have always been able to see the thestrals? when he was a baby his mother was killed right in front of him! maybe coz he was a baby and couldn't remember it, it didn't count? if anyone knows the answer, please tell me.

    Err...

If you read the whole story, I think it wasn't a overseen mistake ;)

Anyway, the real big hole in the Hogwarts defense was the fire places. I mean, I wouln't be spoilering anything when I remind the group of Sirius' trick. Apparently, it could be done...

yer, but when umbridge came she monitored the fireplaces so they couldn't do that anymore. so it wasn't really a safe way to communicate anyway, coz other ppl could see u if they wanted 2.
