Which country do you think has the best army and would probably reign in a war?Don't take into consideration only the nuclear weapons but the army as a whole:numbers, main battle tanks, armored vehicles, artillery, air force, navy etc.

And please give me some reasons too if you want.

USA mofoZ...the only ones who could even dream of facing off with us, without divine intervention (Israel), is China and that's only because of numbers

Golden quote!Russia has about 20,000 main battle tanks and light tanks(T-90,T-80,T-72,
T-64,T-62,T-55,T-54,PT-76),LLLLLLLLLLLOTS of IFVs and APCs like BMP-3,BMP-2,BMP-1,
    BTR-60,70,80,90,BMDR-1/2,BDR-1,2,MT-LB etc. etc.

    Artillery by the thousands....

And apart from a really powerful air force and navy....Russia has probably the best
Anti-aircraft systems in the world with S-300,S-400,Tor-M1,Tunguska and Pantsir-S1 systems literally safeguarding Russia's sky.Apart from that patriotism/nationalism in Russia has been rising, the level of professional soldiers increasing and Russia always had lots of resources and manpower.

On paper with numbers you can easily say "this is stronger", but it's not just about that. It's also intelligence and the quality of training, etc.

During WW2, the SAS (well, British special forces then) took out more axis planes than the entire air forces of the allies going around as a small group in a jeep and performing hit and runs on the axis air bases.

That anecdote might be slightly wrong, but I'm pretty sure I heard it correcctly when watching the documentary.

I agree - armies are not just about mass numbers, but about skill and tactics and training.
Also cut off the head and most armies will fall apart unless very motivated to their cause. China could raise the biggest mass numbers of bodies, poor equipment (like russia as well) and very basic training (point shoot load) would make them little more than grunts in most fights. Thus they would heavily rely on high casulties to win many engagements - its a good tactic whilst things go well, but it can come very unstuck if your troops lose all moral for the fight - it also leaves you easily open to propaganda from the enemy as well.

Met - that anecdote makes sense since if you can break into an airfield and ground all their planes its going to take out a heavy number - rather than in the air which in those days was mostly reliant on filling the air with lead and hoping to hit something!

    Not anymore.

The F-22 Raptor and the Su-47 Berkut outclass the MIG's.

Err... although they have the weapons and the manpower, Russia doesn't have the funding to sustain a long-term war - which, apparently, counts for something as well.

In the end, there's always a toss-up between some superpowers which can force onto the world total annihilation. Such as there are: The United States, Russia, China and, quite possibly, the EU combined (although it doesn't have an army). The rest doesn't matter.

If you'd ask me, the US has the supreme army (also see defense budget) - but since it's rather stretched over two wars already, I'd give China a proper chance as well. The EU doesn't have the mandate or the decisive power to dominate (which is exactly why there's peace in that region). Russia doesn't have the funding or the organisation.

I'm sorry but Russia is the first supplie of weapons in the world or at least among the first ones.Rusians have many variations of the most widely used and most practical assault rifle the Kalashnikov.Russians also have large numbers and variations of the most pratical
anti-tank weapon the RPG.I aggree it's not about numbers but when you combine numbers and good equipment,top-class technology and experience(Chechnya for example)that makes a good army.

Let's see...Russia has around 300 or more T-90 tanks which are equipped with Kontakt-5 ERA armour, plus the Shtora-1 counter-measures suit.Plus high mobility and low siluete that makes the T-90 one of the best protected tanks in the world plus a very good tank with hunter-killer capabilities.

Just behind that comes the T-80 and all it's upgrades and variations which makes up a good tank and Russia has at least 3,000 of them.

Then we have the mass produced T-72,in numbers like 8,000 (and Russia has large numbers of it upgrades with reactive armour etc.)

Then there's the T-64....and after that we go to the "junk" category that consists of T-62(considered a top class tank in the '70s),T-55 and T-54 which Russia has in large numbers and mostly upgraded.

Russians also have when it comes to anti-tank arsenal, the Kornet-E the best anti-tank system in the world which caused losses in the Israeli army when it was used by Hizbollah guerillas against the new top-class Merkava IV and other Merkava tanks.

Add to that,Russia's newly invented armored vehicles and APCs like the BMP-3.Of course USA has some of the best armored vehicles too.And UK as well.

I won't talk about the Air force or Navy because I'm not that well informed although I do know that they have a powerful air force as well.

Anti-air systems?Like I mentioned before they have the best ones in the world.S-300?S-400?
    Tor-M1?Just top-class.

What about the Spetsnaz?Rumored to be the hardest commandos in the world.

    Artillery pieces?Well over 40,000...

So with good motivation Russia can be a deadly enemy.

Last time I checked too it was America although people tend to underestimate Russia and the fact that their army has been dramatically improved durin the Putin era.I guess we could only see that in a real conflict.

To be fair, the British were fighting for a lot longer than the Americans.

And they didn't have to worry about Japan either...

So in the end, it's obviously the U.S.

There are others nearly as strong, I GUESS, but still. We're the strongest. We could take out anyone if we concentrated just on them.

The British army has those amazingly good and die-hard Challenger 2 main battle tanks.I love them.
