See you made me have this picture in my head right now, that Alex is throwing Azuren who is curled up like a ball...and he unfolds on the air and attacks the enemies like some kind of a dwarf creature on contact.

So is that melee or ranged? He is Alex's ranged weapon, however he is using melee to destroy all enemies in close combat.

Hmm....how many Azurens do you have in your quiver? :p

Okay, so from Alex's theory, he's basically Beast and I'm Wolverine. Those familiar with the fastball special in X-men (The comic, not the shitty movie series mind you) will know.Good bros in the Marvel universe just like in here. Sorry Alex, I just stole the spotlight due to the Wolverine reference. :D

Maybe so, but the G3 is as reliable as human stupidity. My country's C7 (bastardized M16A2 with all the worst features of the A1 retrofitted) isn't.

The MP5 just appears too often in books and movies. Beretta M12S is .

I was always a writer more than a gamer, so I've never said that sort of thing about the katana. Besides, straight swords are cooler.

Hahaha!Yeah you're right about the MP5 it does appear on movies and books very often. That doesn't mean it's a bad weapon, just too popular.

Straight swords(medieval style)for me are somehow more elegant,more...knightly...katanas are more exotic. And as the owner of a katana(not made in Japan of course :p)I guess if I made a similar character to yours I would give him a katana to bear.Plus dual Glock 17s.

Everyone goes for dual magnums or dual berettas, but since I've a fake Glock 17(air soft)and my mom sometimes competes in practical shooting matches with her real Glock 17...
well then that's dual Glock 17s for my character :p
It's a very reliable weapon too.

But again the question remains, even in modern fantasy and role-playing games: Melee or Ranged?Maybe it depends on the character's swiftness, constitution or attitude...but still...which one?

Not if your opponent has a ranged weapon of his own. And even if he doesn't, a man with a sword can cover 20 feet before a man with a gun can react to danger and pull the trigger. A man with the right sword (say an Oakeshott Type XIIIa) can shear off both an opponents legs with a single blow. A man can remain up and fighting for as much as fourteen seconds after his heart has stopped.

Of course a cape buffalo can remain up and fighting for two minutes after its heart has stopped, but that's a subject for a different forum.

Never get into a knife fight with a hobbit in a telephone booth.

Sorry, but that needed to be said.

Can't vote. Dagger's are cool as ranged and melee, but then Katana for melee, longbow for ranged, dual HK-MP7 for ranges, good ol' hands 'n' feet for melee.

If we are talking about oblivion fantasy give melee if you refering to fallout obviously ranged is best.
If there are guns they are better than any melee. If not i prefer killing with sword and shield rather than with magic and bows.

A gun isn't always good if the other one gets close. A pistol maybe, but if somebody is behind you or something... and the time it takes to reload.

I think wanderingmagus meant a sniper being stealth-ed by a knife infantry. Which quite honestly is bs once you've got a certain idea called sniper positioning. >.>

Besides which, snipers don't operate alone. They work in pairs supported by a small team providing security from knife-wielding infantry.

I'm not too sure abt the sniper working system, but you've got a point there, GB. That plus snipers would always chose a high ground terrain that will be difficult to navigate. At least in terms of wild terrain. Urban conditions quite obviously is out in terms of the terrain thing.

They also use the best camouflage possible, because if they're seen, they could be taken out by another sniper or just another soldier.
