After getting extremely excited in the LOTR products available on ebay, I recently discovered the material UC uses to make this swords/knives is barely an upgrade from mild carbon steel. This material neither holds an edge well, nor would be any type of effective weaponry. I know that these items are mostly decorative, but it pains me to see that companies charge so much for products that would never in a million years hold up to the real deal.

Im not 100% sure but I believe all of the documentation says they are false edged and make no claim of steel quality. As for the cost, you are paying the designer, rights holder, manufacturer, wholesaler and the ebay user who wants to make a profit as well. I think they are a steal at the normal list prices and compared to the loose handled katanas Ive seen around the same prices, the UC blades are well manufactured quite well.

Edit: Apparently some of them are documented to be 420 stainless...

UC LOTR blades are the nicest wallhanger swords I've ever seen, and I've seen plenty.

You have to accept that they're meant for display only though, not actual use.

Also, to expect to buy an actual functional sword at the price these swords sell for is a little unrealistic.

Yah....I think CB Swords put it pretty well....The lowest priced high quality functional swords that I've ever come across is Albion's Squire Line....and still they are about $350....Still I've been pretty happy with my two wall hanger lord of the rings swords....

Will United cutlery's museum collection ever expand to more than just glamdring and sting? I would love to have a museum edition of striders ranger sword, or Anduril...

Probably not now that the hype has died down somewhat. Although they'd still sell out quite quickly, I'm not sure how much profit is involved in each piece.

I didn't realize that United Cutlery was back in production. I know that they stopped all production of all products about a year and a half to two years ago. Something to do with a buy out by another company or something. There site doesn't even come up anymore.

It's been like this for a while:

    unitedcutlery.com

    Under Construction

Could of sworn I did that...but I just did and it worked. My shortcut must be defective or out of date.

The museum collections actually did not sell well. UC had to liquidate remaining inventory of both, additionally I believe they lost a lot on the glamdrings due to a big batch of faulty blades.

I wouldn't expect to see them again, unless perhaps an Anduril.

When the hobbit comes out something could happen, but then again the two main sword in The Hobbit, Glamdring and Sting, have already been done.

Didn't the Glamdring's have bent blades? From memory it put a lot of people off, spending that much money to get a dodgy product. Even if it was replaced, first impressions and all that.

Ya they were improperly tempered which caused warping.

United Cutlery IS back in production, so there should be a good chance that they either re-continue the museum collection line or else add to it... I hope.
