Wellington's Oscar-winning designer Richard Taylor, known for his work on The Lord of the Rings, will receive an honorary doctorate from Victoria University.

Mr Taylor won Oscars for best visual effects and best make-up for the first part of the trilogy and a Bafta award for best costume design for the second instalment, The Two Towers.

He and Rings director Peter Jackson are co-founders of Weta Workshop and Weta Digital.
