    correct your turn

BTW, I'm pretty sure that name was developed during the creation of a RPG, rather than by JRRT himself, so don't feel bad if you didn't get it.

    Okay, here's your question.

Explain why Elves are the first children of Eä, but the Dwarves are historically older.

Aule created the dwarves in secret. Illuvater got mad at Aule, but had sympathy for the living race, and put them back to sleep, not to awake until well after the elves.

It's short, I know, but I don't have the time right now. If you want a longer answer, tell me.:)

You are essentially correct, and I give you credit. :) But the Dwarves were not "put back to sleep", they hadn't been awakened yet. They were merely created, waiting to be awakened. Illuvatar ordered that they be put into hiding, essentially, until his beloved first children, the elves, were created and "born" into the world, at which time the dwarves were also awakened.

    Your turn.

actually, the Dwarves had been awakened. Aulë wanted to teach them speach etc, when Eru interrupted him. Check chapter II of the Quenta Silmarillion :)
