    I'm not saying there aren't other elements in Star Wars but if I had to categorize it as either
    Fantasy or Sci-Fi I would categorize it as Sci-Fi.

    Yep, and he said Space Fantasy also, which I think is probably the most accurate. Nice to see such an old interview actually.

    I love how any time anyone brings up star wars and mentions it's genre, regardless of their opinion, we get dragged into one of these debates.

    FFS it's not that big of a stretch to call it BOTH.

    i think i'll say, for story, LOTR. For epic powers and awesomeness, Star Wars. Because Lightsabers+Force>swords+maybe 4 magic users.

    I'm not going into another debate with that. I'm just curious what science are we talking about? Sound in space? Laserswords that don't stretch out as far as the eye can see?

    Im not particularly fond of either. Though if I had a Jabberwock pointed at my head, i'd have to say simply movie 1 of the LOTR

    Luke> Frodo
    Gandalf = Qui-gon
    Aragorn > Obi-Wan
    Merry and Pippin > JarJar

    Guess I lean towards LoTR. On the other hand, SW gets to the action a lot faster.

    personally I lean more towards fantasy the sci-fi so LotR for me, though I love the original SW trilogy.

    On this whole Fantasy vs Sci-Fi, there is in fact a genre out there that perfectly suits, Science Fantasy.

    On the whole, I'd say LotR makes a longer, more complex story, but it can get boring and tedious in parts, while SW is action-packed, which can be suspenseful at first, but gets tedious after too long. Overall, IMO, LotR is better written, but SW is more attuned to the intended Audience, if that makes sense.

    Why not both?

    I've had it with picking sides. When it comes to fantasy, I absolutely love LotR, when it comes to 'sci-fi' (in the broader sense of the term - I don't want to argue about genres here) I absolutely love Star Wars. If I had to pick one in a life-or-death situation, I would pick Star Wars, but mainly because I grew up with it. :p
