No, my fellow Star Wars geeks, these are not ACTUAL real lightsabers, but they are close. Yeah, I found a company that makes them, they are made with a real metal crafted handle, and an indestructable blade with a light tube inside. If you wanna know more about it, PM me and I can give you the website address. So, anybody else ever seen these things? They kick butt.

Yeah I know the ones you're talking about. I wouldn't say the blades are indestructable, and they come with the disclaimer "don't hit anything!" But they look awesome, sound awesome, and they're relatively cheap, about USD$150 I think. Very very cool :)

I think the company's website has a short video you can view of it being powered up, swung around and powered down so you can see and hear the effects. Sweet!

it is now actually possible to make a real lightsaber. to make it.......it's just the case of putting thousands of coiled glass filaments together, with a pweoful laser at one end and a mirrored plate at the other. switch on the laser and the glass filament would expand and create the saber blade, which would be capable of heating anything it came into contact with to around 2000 celcius in a few milliseconds. the only problem is, in order to do this it would require a mulit gigawatt supply. Or a Jedi behind it! you can check it out at the link http://www.cs.vu.nl./~dick/lightsaber/Lightsaber.html the guy trying to make one is called Dick Grune.

Has anyone considered getting an FX MR saber? Here's a pic of mine. Only $100.....without the display stand. This is a replica of Vader's in ANH. It looks 99% like their higher priced 'limited edition' (none-blade) saber handles.
It's VERY nice, extremly happy with it.

I have a friend who is about to get that exact same saber. They're definitely nice. And they make the great saber sounds. I only wish the blade detached on them like the Park Sabers. That way you could display it, swing it around, and come Halloween or something, you could actually attach the thing to your belt for a costume.

You know that the original prop was made of wood and the saber part was foil?

You mean the handle was wood and the blade was aluminium? I believe they used and still use hollow aluminium tubes for the blades so they're light and fast, but they get hammered so quickly you have to replace the blades every few fights!

The real problem with a real lightsaber is that if it was really as hot as it is in the movies then you couldn't hold your hand that close to it.

From what little I know of lightsaber "fact" I thought they worked by agitating molecules they come in contact with? Kind of like how microwaves heat up food (I know that's a big 'kind of'!). So you can have one really close and not burn anything, but as soon as it touches something it works?
