I like holly st.raven's points about the magic system. The idea of carving them into stone is cool... plus the idea of their being able to fade. It would add an interesting element. Perhaps certain rune could fade VERY quickly, etc. Hmmm...

The reason cloth and blood appealed to me was because I was envisioning robes covered with loosely-stitched ribbons of silk that would blow in the wind, but only release the runes when the correct breath (ie the person who's blood had made the runes) blew on it. For example, robes covered in these, with a stock of runes...for example, maybe 10 of a rune that can light a small fire, 10 or a rune that can make things fly further, etc. Plus, having runes engraved in stone would seem more permanent...unless you were thinking of writing, not engraving, on the stones? They'd also be hard to carry many around at a time.

Runes eh? I like it, but rather than them being inscribed/embroidered/drawn they could just be temporary , created by the user's magic for use in directing or shaping a particular spell, with only the really advanced ones being permanent carvings etc.
I'd be totally up for getting involved with this RP (mine's moving a little slow atm) and i'd be a permanent participant if you'll have me :)

I like the original idea, the cloth/blood thing adds to the transient nature of this type of magic.

I would opt for sticking with the original form, but we are free to open it up for a vote.

I'm thinking of getting a start on the first post at some point today and finishing it tomorrow at the latest. People can post and review characters over saturday and thus have the thing started by sunday at the latest.

Remember, anyone not on the panel will have to have their character approved by the silent ballot to participate, and also those on the panel, while having entrance allowed, will still have to get approval on characters by the rest of the panel to go forward. this may mean there will be some time getting people ready to go but hopefully we're still on for the weekend start.

I have a question on character creation.

Now for the character's biography is it possible to have your character start off in the RPG midway/prior to his biography/history?

As in? You'd be writing character history after the events of the RPG?

No, just after the events of the initial part of the RPG i.e. What my character will become.

I would avoid that unless you have a good reason, it therefore stands opposed to any actions taken within the RPG itself and would add a level of certainty where there shouldn't be. There would be no risk in a situation if you were sure to survive for whatever future purpose you've laid out.

Well I only wanted to do it because the character biography would look somewhat short. I'll try and beef up the history with other random information.

Not to mention he'll look really bland and very..."normal".

Well then the character bio would be an active process, we can watch it grow like some twisted plant.

Well it's not particularly interesting. I'm assuming people who are different from the norm are what make the difference and hence focused on in a story lol

but difference is something that people strive to have or have forced upon them, if they were exceptional form the start that wouldnt be very different for them would it now?

I think Met's terrified as being classified as "bland and normal" hehe

oh and it's not necessarily that the character is inherently special that makes a good story. Rather, any "normal" character who goes through special experiences/trials, can be very interesting.

By normal I mean there is no difference to someone who is just there. If all my character biography said "So and so is a miner in southern wherever" that's hardly going to add to the story. He's just a person who is there. Hence someone normal.

I do not mean normal in the sense of no exceptional skill or role in life. I meant normal in terms of goal or purpose. I was going to show in my biography a little bit of what I intend him to be giving him an actual reason to be written about within the RP.

Mine is a little extraordinary, might have to tone it back if there are complaints though. Wrote it before we started brainstorming though.
