I do.. you'll have to give me a day to post it.

but the brown scabbards are with the Lorien gear. So i'm assuming he got them after Lorien

I wonder why they gave him new scabbards and daggers in lothlorien.... in the books he only got the quiver and bow there...

The scabbards would probably have changed... but the handle??? or did they? :p

that's the picture i was actually going to post....

my best guess... on scabbards and knives... is that they made 2... and they switched from time to time.

BUT.. because they filmed all 3 movies at one time... and scenes from one movie, and then later filmed scenes for the other.
is that they just forgot to change the knives. The quiver and bow was important.. but knives... just forgetful.

Hmm....I'm still gonna need to see a pic of him using yellow knives in the film to be convinced that he even did. But anyway, the scabbards...who knows.

Good theory on the knives though...they were seldom used, so they probably didn't put as much thought to it.

its true.. his main weapon was the bow which he used 90% of the time.
Even when he was up close to the enemy.

*stabbing the Uruk hai in the face with arrow.. then re-using it and shoots it to the Uruk hai behind him*

the knives just look pretty.. and he waves them around real fast for anyone to see or notice

Quite true. But that can be said for many of the weapons...as far as waving them around too fast go.

But what makes Legolas' knives even harder to appreciate in action as far as detail goes...is their size.

Erm, I think I found the dark handled knives on the extrended TTT DVD yesterday - but unfortunately I don't have any pictures to back this up at the moment. My computer had quite an impressive breakdown yesterday and needs (among other things - including a good kicking) a new DVD drive.

So this is where I 'think' Legolas has the darker knives:

When Gandalf, Aragorn, Gimli and Legolas arrive at Edoras they have to hand over their weapons before entering the Golden Hall - the handles of Legolas' knives are dark albeit not very clearly on the screen.

A better shot of the knives is not much later on. When Gandalf rides Shadowfax out of the stables from Edoras to go and find Eomer he goes past Legolas and Gimli. Legolas holds his quiver with the knives attached up in front of his face - the handles are the darker ones and it's also a good shot of the leather scabbards.

But by the time they're all off on the way to Helm's Deep and get waylaid by the Warg Riders it's back to light coloured handles.

Sorry about the lack of pictures but hopefully someone else can help out for the time being?

Hi everyone, if you take a look at the fellowship of the ring EE DVD, in the weta workshop section Richard Taylor shows us the legolas daggers and they are the exact same colour of the ones that United Cutlery has produced. I actually like the yellowish ones just as much as the white ones anyway.

You'd be one of the few, Oropher. Lol.

Anyways, I'll take a look tonight, Aini, and try to get a screen cap.

You are right Aini. I was watching the director's commentary over the weekend and noticed the same thing. They are dark...brownish-orangish colour.

since i started this poll its started from the begining to get off topic. this was supposed to be about the scabbards, in the fotr ee they are regarded as the white knives, in the lotr wepons and warfare book they are called white knives "beacause of thier opalesent scabbaeds and light handles" there is evidence to both sides of this argument but in the ofical pictures they are pearled scabbards and pale handles made of box wood this is not a place to bicker about the handels that thread has been made over and over. sorry but i had to say that thanks.

Well said Elrond243. The white scabbards are pictured in the Appendicies from the extended edition of the Fellowship DVD. For some reason they weren't used in the movies. Tha props used were actually brown. I think that's because the scabbards didn't get a lot of screen time and when they did they were covered by Legolas's quiver. Legolas's costume is mostly green and brown with some silver and gold. I think the bright white scabbards would have stuck out too much and clashed with Legolas's costume.

Very true. We were quite off topic.

I think this is a good bet as to why the scabbards changed, Cjg. I think the white scabbards look incredible, but the brown ones are just as nice. I truely look forward to those pieces, the scabbards, coming out, so we can see some final pics of the completed pieces.
