I've always wanted to run a rainstick through an amp with heavy distortion. I think it would sound very unique.

 

That sounds and would probably sound very interesting to try. Another addition on the list of things to do.

 

In theory, all I would need to do this would be a microphone that you can plug into a guitar amp. I have an amp with distortion already, and I can borrow my friends rainstick.

 

do it, record the sound, spread it

 

Maybe I'll also try bongos or something.
