I believe that it is a "Tonfa" except they are bladed tonfa's or "Tonfa blades" which are similar to tonfa with a blade along the outside edge of each shaft.

That is what I thought, but I believe they are long then a Tonfa and I cannot find any other pic's of them under that.

So is it a take off of a Tonfa, or is it a real weapon?

I think it is just a made up weapon.

Ok I thought I had seen them in my brother’s old dojo, but there where a lot of weapons on the walls and it was a long time ago.

    Thanks a lot!

The weapon is not made up. A tonfa is not necessarily a baton and not kept to a specific size. It is merely a bladed tonfa.

There were some who speculated that the weapons were katar, but that seems heavily unlikely; the size, shape and employment were much more like how one might expect a tonfa to be used.

So yes, they were likely tonfa. Tonfa are a Japanese weapon, developed in Okinawa, which were used for much the same thing as a police baton. So bladed tonfa, I suppose, would be used like a police baton, except with the intent to kill instead of harm.

The katar, in case you were curious, was an Indian punching sword, which was meant to make quick jabbing blows on an opponent.

No way they are katar. The design of the katar is totally different. A Katar's handle is below the abse of the blade, whereas the tonfa are on the top.

It's certainly tonfa based, I don't know that it was ever actually used outside of movies though.

I would think that having a blade running parallel to your own forearm is a good way to cut yourself! Especially seeing as (I believe) the long part of the wooden tonfa are used to cover and protect the forearms, then flicking out to strike, or punching with the short end via the handle.

So if you braced a blade against your forearm then blocked an incoming shot, you're likely to get your arm cut. Cool movie weapon though.

Well yes that thought did occur to me thanks. However I still think they'd be far from practical in a real world situation.
