    Hey guys,
Since we have so many new writers on the forum, does anyone have any interest in doing another short story contest in the month of August before all the young-uns go back to school?
Last year we did one based on who could come up with the most creative magic system. This year I thought we could do one based on a bunch of pictures... you'd have to pick 2 or 3 out of 5 or 6 choices and incorporate the ideas into your story. I did that for a contest on another forum and it was lots of fun. :)
If there's any interest in doing this again I'll try and come up with a less-cheesy prize compared to last year (sorry Greybeard :D) and we'll need people to judge again.... volunteers to write and volunteers to judge.
Post below if you'd like to do one or the other....

I'm always interested, I just never have time to write one :(

Maybe I'd be able to this time. Who knows.

Depends on if I'm inspired by the pictures.

    Lol SJ....

I don't think it's your turn to organise one of these! Actually I am a bit ahead of you, but more on that later :)

    Still... anyone interested?

I have the time to write and would love to have something to write too. Count me in.

If I can pair up with someone here then count me in.
Otherwise I probably won't have enough free time.

Oh my.... well if you want the job of running it.... I won't say no and that takes the responsibility of the cheesy prize off me and puts it on you :D
I'm in (to write or to judge.... wherever you want me) and thanks Tur :)

Since you didn't get time to enter last year, I'm hoping to see a story from you this year Sparrow... and you too Liv! :D

If we got enough people, we could try writing in pairs, to add an extra challenge.
(pairs could also help with experience and with language)

Alas, I fear everyone has to take such burden upon himself every so often... But yes! I accept :)

I think it's a nice idea, though I am not entirely sure whether I would want to force people to go full tag-team coop story contest mode... opinions?

I agree with Druid, it would make for an interesting mix of ideas and languages.
I'm impressed with our European/Scandinavian members and their grasp of English. Sometimes the choice of words and the way ideas are conveyed are a bit... quirky, but usually quite interesting. Even the folks from third world countries like Australia and Canada are pretty good with the Queen's English. I mean in their own quaint little way.

I suspect that collaborating on a short would make me pull out what's left of my hair. With a short, I usually think about it for a few days, then dump it onto the page in a couple of hours. I don't think that lends itself to collaboration. Besides, I want to be able to e-publish it later.

I think it depends on the person.
For example: I don't have much experience, or JNK's level of English isn't as high as the native speakers.
But then you will write it up just before giving it in and kick ass. If you had a teammate, they'd be annoyed at your apparent lack of work up until that moment. :)

Are you saying you speak Queen's English!? Colour, centre, favourite, armour, standardise, pyjamas, lorry, garden, jam, etc. :D

We might accept both single and double entries?

I meant the rock band, Queen... not the that old bitch whose never worked a day in her life.;)

In fact you all can think of me as the straight Freddie Mercury.
