    Hey, fellow writers,

Tell me what gives you inspiration to write. Mine is music. I can hear a piece of music and a story pops into my head.

    What is yours?

Music will set me going too. I also like taking long drives and gaining inspiration from the scenery. Sometimes an emotional event or something I read in the news will get the old gears churning too.

I agree both with music and long drives. What helped me a lot with my book was Scotland and castles in Europe.... I traveled a lot to get a nice ending for my book... And in my travels i met a dear mature lady wise enough in one place near Highlands that told me: Don't tell me how much educated you are, just tell me how much you have traveled! And i realized that world is like a book and those who don't travel see only one page...

Actually its when I read something and all of a sudden I throw down the book and go to write ten pages. Sometimes it drives my fiancee nuts.

I agree in part with rmathew. When I read something that totally gets me going, I write when I'm done reading. I like to read things that make me want to be a better writer. The task then becomes to not allow what you just read to be an immediate only style influence.

Best stuff to read to get inspired to write:
    Sanderson
    King
    Mr. JRR
    Jordan
    Weis and Hickman
    and more...

My other main inspiration that hasn't been mentioned yet is travel.

Some of the places that I've been that have popped up in some sort of inspirational level in my novels and shorts stories:
    Machu Pichu
    Swiss Alps
    The Colorado Rockies
    Ixtapa, Mexico
    Dachau Concentration Camp
    Prague
    Montemarte
    The Tower of London
    Florence and Pisa
    Rome/Vatican
    Fontainbleu
    Dresden
and a zillion other places that I have been, some more precise and specifically located than others.

Pain, people I meet, places I travel to, movies I watch, books I read...everything man. There's no one magical recipe.
