For those unaware: Indiana Jones 4 has been in the works for a few years, mostly in multiple rewrites. Frank Durabont made an effort in late 2003 that George Lucas (a half owner of the franchise) decided to do a rewrite himself. Apparently Lucas is nearing completion.

According to an interview that Steven Spielberg had on Canal+ he will start shooting the next installment of Indiana Jones in early 2005 right after he finishes War of the Worlds. Right After Indy he expects to direct a political movie that he didn't want to talk about.

The political movie is expected to be Vengeance which will chronicle the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich, Germany, where Israeli athletes were kidnapped by a group of Palestinian militants. Ultimately, 11 Israelis lost their lives in that terrorist attack.

So does that mean a final script on Indiana Jones has been agreed on? Just recently Durabont was quoted to the effect that his script had been rewritten to the point of being completely new.

Isn't Harrison Ford a little too old to play Indy?

there are rumors that the movie will focus on him handing the reigns over to his son.

The Indy Experience pointed us to an interesting rumor at Female First which says that Harrison Ford has been told not to exercise in preparation for the Indiana Jones 4 shoot, which the site claims starts in January.

"It's been 15 years since the last Indy movie and obviously Harrison has got a lot older but that's not a problem for this movie," a supposed insider says. "Steven doesn't want a middle-aged guy trying to look young - he wants to bring a new type of hero to the screen."

If the site is correct, they'll be going for an older and wiser and less physical Indy than before. Reportedly the fourth installment is set in the 1950's (about twenty years after the previous three)

Our friends over at TheIndyExperience are reporting that Sean Connery is out of Indy 4. No official word from any of the involved camps. Here is what is being reported: Just received a report that a Scottish based television show ran a story on Sean Connery's retirement and that he probably won't be back for Indy 4. The news show, Scotland Today, talked about Sean Connery recently backing out of the film Joshua's Cannon and the possibility that he might be retiring from acting. They also mentioned that the producers of Indiana Jones 4 are having to work around the fact that Sean Connery probably won't be in the fourth film. Apparently he was initially in the storyline but now they will be forced to rework the story.

If George and Steven dont settle their differences on the script Indy will end up losing all of their key players.

By heart Indy is a action adventurer even though hes older i hope they dont put that part of him on a partial back burner. it wouldnt be the same if Indy wasnt cocky and funny and the leader and i hope they dont end up doing Ford like they did Connery, meaning that the hole movie his son will be draging him through it.

An old Indiana Jones 4 casting rumor has been relight today. Michelle Yeoh Web Theatre posted a set report from Memoirs of a Geisha, and included in the set report was a quote from Steven Spielberg (who is serving as producer on the film) where he talked with Hong Kong actress Michelle Yeoh (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon) about a part in Indiana Jones 4. Here's the quote:

Once when producer Steven Spielberg came to the filming set, he said to Michelle: "Don't forget we are supposed to work together on an Indiana Jones sequel." Michelle answered: "I will be waiting for you!"

Now, this is not a new rumor. Talk of Michelle Yeoh's involvement in Indiana Jones 4 first emerged back in 1998 when Terrence Chang, Michelle Yeoh's agency, stated that Michelle had met with Spielberg to discuss a possible role for her in Indy 4. In 2000, Cinescape talked with Yeoh about her involvement with the fourth film, where she said, "We [Spielberg and Yeoh] had a couple of meetings and we did talk about that [Indiana Jones 4 ]. He is one guy who has a passion for filmmaking. And I love the Indiana Jones films! Would I be interested? Of course I'm going to jump up and say, 'Yes, please!'"

Since we don't have an official announcement from Spielberg or Lucas, this is still up in the air. But we can certainly file Michelle Yeoh under possible cast members for Indiana Jones 4
