Just wanting to rant about a friend, didnt want to wasted room in the other sections.

Wednesday night we had a huge storm here, it flooded almost instantly and I have a friend/co-worker who was on his way home. He knows the road to his house floods easily, and he saw the fire department parked near it to warn people not to continue through.
Well, he did, then tried to back out of it and got washed off the road. They had to swim out to him and tie a rope around his chest to pull him out.
Car is gone along with his stuff in it.

He shows up at me and my wife's apartment with this story, so we let him in.

    Background on the friend.
He is extremely socially inept. He doesnt really care about people, speaks REALLY loud while talking, constantly interrupting people and conversations with utter nonsense (like yelling "purple", "cows", or random quotes from movies that have NOTHING to do with the topic) He is around my age (25), lives at home with his parents in an extra room/building, doenst pay any bills, spends ALL his money from work on warhammer figurines, video games, DnD books, etc, racks up credit cards and refuses to pay them off, failed out of college (for the 2nd or third time), and is highly highly annoying. He also either mixes is ADD meds with alcohol or doesnt take them, is always screaming, yelping, not listening etc.etc. and uses his "problems" as an excuse to be the way he is.

Okay, so he stops by out place with the car story, so we let him in, give him dry clothes, let him take a shower, wait until later and check out the road, still flooded, and let him stay the night. He complains about our cat, about how i turned off the computer so he couldnt use it at night (he likes porn and i dont want that on my computer). We make him a pallet on the couch with blankets and pillows, and then he complains later that our bed squeeks and we need a new one. We give him our old cell phone so he could put his simcard in it since his phone drowned (but was recovered later along with other items that were drowned as well) he then puts out a blog about how he despises the phones we gave him (saying they are from the sixties and pieces of crap when they are just 2 years old) And when I call him today to ask about how much comp time we got for going to a meeting he says "My mom told you already. She told you TO YOUR FACE!" (his mom is our boss) I told him i know but its been a while and I forgot. OH and my wife drove him around all day to gather info on where his car was moved to
He has been so disrespectful, and to people who let him in their home.

    ....

It really should't get me as much as it did. I mean, I know that this is how he is, which is why I actually never invite him over, but I thought, for some reason, he'd show some...respect or courtesy when we helped him.
My wife actually cant stand him at all, he is racist, rude and vulgar (always makes the "jack-off" motion when something happens he doesnt like....which is always)

Wow, Alchemist.... that's a total bummer.

I mean seriously. I would be ticked if I'd done something really nice for the guy and he acted that way.

Seeing as this is the only story I've heard about him, and that you may have really good times with him, i don't really know if this question is approiate; Why are you friends with him?

From what I've heard, I think his mom has probably babied him, and therefore he has no idea how to properly deal with people. I'm truly sorry you have to put up with it. I honestly wouldn't have the patience you have, and I really respect you for it.

Sounds like he needs a good punch in the face to wake him up to the real world!
Or at least being made to try to make it on his own and see how he goes. I mean if he ever takes over the family business from his mom, he will fail dismally due to his appalling lack of being able to deal with people rationally and his social ineptness.
Maybe it is time to cut ties with him or change jobs.

I'll never understand how someone can really get to the point where this is their only way to function. I was at a party last weekend and there was this guy who seemed fairly similar to the guy you just described and his constant vulgarity was really just creeping the girls out so we had to ask him to leave. I felt bad for the guy because it was obvious that he needed some friends, but real life isn't some anonymous forum where you can say whatever you want ...

Regardless of his reaction, know that you guys did the right thing and sometimes just knowing that is enough reward. (Sorry he was a dick about it though)

Situations like that and people like that get me so angry. I'd have to confront him... that's totally unfair on you and your wife and nobody deserves to be treated that way. Jeez, what an ass to be like that, even if he does have some issues - I know that may not be entirely his fault but still.. there are ways to control it, especially with friends.
    Dang :/
