Do a google search for SCA or the society for creative anachronism - they do this sort of thing.

I think you are supposed to use foam, like putting a NERF dart on the end. A cut off arrow with ducttape would hurt a lot!

    Gondolin Ranger, are you insane?

Gohekan, I don't recommend anyone under the age of 16-18 playing combat archery, if you want to learn more go to www.sca.org and find your nearest location/Kingdom. If you are suitable for their guidelines and safety rules, they will teach you everything you need to learn.

But I'm not going to give out advice and suppliers to a 14 year old who shoots his friend in the eye and then have his parents come after me.

You got it gohekan, me and Gondolin Ranger just got these 10-15lb. bows from sports authority, then got carbon arrows and broke off the tips and got foamy stuff and wrapped duct tape on them. Or we would just get some wood dowels and cut them to size, notch them with a knife, and then tape
'em up and we were all set. We also made cardboard chestplates and used paintball masks.

Okay amateurs, if you want to see how the pros do it properly, check out my Combat Archery thread:
    http://www.thefantasyforum.com/showthread.php?t=1836

I also made the same thread, but more concise and all at once, over at UCforums:

We play with max 30lb bows, and that's slow and weak enough. I can only imagine how boring it must be to use max 15lb bows. I've fired a 15lb bow before, and you may as well throw the arrows.

I still think you guys are crazy not taking really serious safety precautions. I'm glad I'm with a group who has the know how and the balls to play games like this well, and safely.

That balls comment wasn't aimed at anyone, I just love my group and our hobby :)

GA is Georgia right? Follow these 2 links and see if they're anywhere near you.

God I sound like an SCA recruitment officer! It's just that it's the easiest way I know of to put people in touch with others who play combat archery. Independent groups like mine exist, but are harder to find.

Thank you Mububban, I actually think that Atlantia one sounds good (I think more people know about Atlanta than Marietta).
