A pig, and a spider, and a rat, who live on a farm, and are trying to find a way to save the pig from being eaten at Christmas time, I believe.

Nienor- My mom said that to me when we were watching the movie, she said "man, charlotte's really let herself go... Shelob's lookin a little trim though" I was like "shhhh mom! you're ruining the movie" but i was just kidding

Hey now, I happen to like Harry Potter, but i would have turned around and told those boys to go marry f-ing Harry Potter if he liked him so much... GRR that makes me mad that someone would say that.... ooo the nerve of some people! grr

Yeah. In the end of the book very sad. Spiders only live one year. (That's what the book says anyways) But she leaves behind eggs which hatch into babies next spring. A few spiders stay with him. And year after year... So it's a fairly happy ending.

OFC, she's a tiny little house spider. Nothing like Shelob. lol

Wow all you guys get really stirred up by a stupid person, it's no the guy's fault he's retarded. He probably just wanted to get a reaction from someone.

BTW, why the heck is there a giant spider in HP? I thought it was supposed to be a giant snake...(no, I haven't bothered to see either HP movies I've got better things to do with my time, like anything else other than seeing those movies)

    the giant spider's is Hagrid's!

your probably right...amyb he did want a reac tion but it still seems like a pretty retarted thing to say, considering the spider in HP didn't do much, all it did was fu*kling sit there on it's big behind when Shelob ate stuff and raped hobbit's and Orcs!!

I dont know about raped them, thats kinda nasty, even for Shelob.
But still, I saw both movies, and there is no comparison.

HP: Bad child actors piss their pants while looking at a giant spider that looks like a muppet gone wrong, and then drive a car away from the scene of the piss.

LotR: Shelob, who looks evil as hell, chases a hobbit through dark tunnels, finally pouncing and stinging the Hobbit. This then followed by a great fight between Sean Austin and Shelob that really should end in both an award for Sean Austin and for Shelob(WETA people)

    blah

Okay I only saw Harrpotter and the sorcerors stone and the only reason for that is my sister and her friend ductaped me in a chair and help my eyelids open with tongs. But now your telling me that there is a giant spider in HP!!!!!!!!, My God is JK, Rowling completly coping tolkien or what, first there is a kid who is somebody special and he doesn'nt know it sound like frodo and harry, ya. Then we have his slow-witted friend who follows him everywhere, sound like sam and what was his name ron wesesly, then there is the mirrior that if you look into it will show you important stuff, sound like galadriel and that other deal. Then you have of course your dark lord who can't take physical form until he gets his powerful thingy of power, sound like sauron and the ring and lord vuldamort is that his name, I did'nt read the books so I don't know the spelling,( actually I have to keep asking my sister the names of the HP people I don't know). Lets see what else was there that is similar, oh yes your wizards with the long white beards. Well I could probebly remember more if I watched it abain but that ain't happeneing, Oh ya and now I hear that there is a giant spider well hello anybody thinking of shelob ar ungoliant.

*Shrug* Most of those are just common, general plot elements, with some that have been cliche.

Well (1) I'm sure if it wasn't a coincidence then JKR would have been sued or whatnot by now, since her books have been out for a couple years already and (2) a lot of those are cliches.

yea and if you think about it, tolkien's idea by itself isn't all too original, richard wagner, a german composer, wrote an opera based on a war for a ring of power. just something to think about

Tolkien inspired practically every fantasy writer since the 1950's, so I'm not surprised.
