I've asked this elsewhere but I'm curious what responses I'll get here -- which fantasy authors are known for combining humor & fantasy well -- that is, not simply using humor for comic relief from time to time, but using it throughout an entire story as one of its chief elements? People have recommended Terry Pratchett but it's strange to me that few others have been recommended. (And, from the little I've read of Terry Pratchett, I didn't consider him "funny" as much as simply "amusing." Of course, that's a matter of personal perspective.) If humor is added to fantasy, does it risk becoming a "spoof?" I'm surprised that more fantasy authors don't use more humor, or is writing good humor simply more difficult than writing good fantasy and few want to take on that challenge? Any ideas on that?
