how do i start an RPG?
Go to RPG Theme Suggestions and lay out your idea and what it involves. If enough people express an interest in joining, you then ask Nienor to make space for you in the RPG section.
Also be aware that some knob'eads who sign up will make a few posts and then bugger off forever. I'm lucky enough to have a dedicated core for my rpg who post regularly (a few of whom I know offline), so it's probably worth getting to know people first to determine their character and dedication before you put Nienor to the bother of creating a new section for you.
Quite. It's not so amusing when something you've devoted time and effort to goes tits up because people have tiny attention spans. It pays to vet players. Saves a lot of hassle in the end. I wish I'd been more selective, though it all worked out in the end.
All of the Above is relevant.
Also above all have a good premise for a story and relevant guidelines for people to follow.
Yup, guidelines are important. Once you've set them down make sure everyone sticks to them, otherwise you can end up heading off in a direction you don't like. Have a clear vision of what you want from the rpg, along with a well-realised universe in which the characters operate. It doesn't have to be breathtakingly original (mine certainly isn't), but everything that's written should be consistent: in other words clamp down on paradoxical posts as soon as you see them. Conversely, if someone comes up with a good idea, don't be afraid to edit your own posts to incorporate it. Most importantly, though, have fun (which, if you enjoy writing, you doubtless will).
(And if people don't check their spelling, give 'em a slap!)
Spellcheck is our friend. That, or a decent education.
write your game
if its good, people will batter the door down
Nom, the odd typo is acceptable, though it always helps to proof-read before posting. A post littered with spelling errors just kills the atmosphere, though.
ooh, what kind of RPG do you propose?
Hopefully one that people will post in after signing up!
Aye, and there's the rub.:balrog:
Separate names with a comma.
