Did anyone actually use horned helms? I've heard that the common belief of the cliche viking helm (with the cattle horns on the sides) is a misconception. Due to what I believe was a mistranslation of helms made with pieces of horn and bone (for reinforcement maybe? instead of ornamental and intimidation uses?). Does anyone know more about this? I'm curious if anyone actually wore horned helms, wether for battle or ritual. Thanks in advance for any replies.
