Thanks! It's a mixed media painting that I touched up in Photoshop... I just turned it into grayscale because I prefer black & white or sepia tones to full color. Seems like b&w photographs always have more punch to them so that's what I like to do to my artwork sometimes. And yeah, there ain't nothing practical about being an artist.:) I remember a long time ago taking a workshop in sculpture... I was absolutely horrid at it. In my opinion, sculpture is the highest form of art so it was a humbling experience. I was painting in oils by the time I was 8, have painted murals and trompe-l'œil in rich people's homes and had at least one of the murals show up in one of those expensive coffee table art books... so I fully expected to be able to sculpt the human face and figure, especially if I put plenty of effort into it... but I could not sculpt worth a damn no matter how hard I worked at it!

Sculpture is probably my favorite kind of art, which is why I really want to learn it. I figured it'd take some time for me to get any good at it and I also figured it wasn't too unlikely I would always suck at it :p Oh well, I'm still having fun with it at least.

So have you completely given up trying to learn it then? :p

No, I think that was probably it for me and sculpture, at least in the traditional sense.:)

Though since I live in a turn-of-the-century home that I'm renovating I do have a great set of woodworking tools so I've made things like clocks and wood boxes, and whatnot. Probably not sculpture per se, but all have sculptural elements to them. And that I do pretty well! :) When I get a chance I'll post some pics of the clock I made last year as I'm sort of proud of it.

When I was last downtown to visit the modern art gallery, of which btw a portrait of me hangs, shot by one of my neighbors... my 15 minutes of obscure fame here and gone :), I also popped into the modern art museum and among the new exhibits there was a showing of teapots, of all things. Various artists had interpreted the humble teapot in really extraordinary ways... that is perhaps a type of sculpture I could see myself doing. I was really amazed at how interesting and even emotional a stupid teapot could be!

So are you more into traditional or conceptual sculpture?

At one time I used to absolutely hate modern art. Now when I find myself in a new city on vacation it's only the modern art museums and galleries that I ever visit.:)

That sounds really cool :) That's something I've wanted to learn but feel I would suck at :p

I'm very into traditional sculpture. I can appreciate conceptual work, but it isn't something I go crazy for :)

    No arguments from me ;)

    Thanks!

Awesome! I'm sure I'll get around to posting pictures eventually :) I took some Star Wars themed photos of my kittens that I need to get uploaded because they're seriously adorable (which I need to remind myself when they're destroying my room :p).

Seven cats, BT? That just jogged a memory in my brain... you're not on your way to St. Ives, are you by any chance? Darth, if I've not already said it, welcome!
