If you have a problem or concern about a peticular thing about the forum wouldn't it be more responsible to take it to a moderator an discuss this with him or her through a private message, I am sure that is suppose to be there area of exspertise when running a forum? By posting it like this you may find other people possibly newcomers coming in an reading this an getting upset with your aggravation which is not fair to them either. There are alot of topics I agree that are not even nothing to do with fantasy, but who cares, its for fun, relax an enjoy yourself, state your opinion or just pass it by. That to me would be the logical answer of trying to solve this. Obviously ppl are attracted to coming to this forum because the atmosphere (meaning the people) seems friendly an that is what attracted me to it. :)

Haha I think this post and this thread generally is still valid with the current wave of "newbies" that has been coming in the forum and posting in the debate right away.

Hmm...I smell elitism in the air. Just because a person has ten million posts to their name doesn't necessarily mean they have anything interesting to say, nor that their opinion is any more valid than someone with one post. If the people who run the forum don't have a problem with newbies joining the debates, than I don't see why anyone else should. Seniority does not equate to superiority...

Why so ~ most of the newer members I've seen posting in the debate threads are also dedicated spammers and have posted in the books section etc too. Since when has there been a probation period before a member can post in any section?

I do share Tur's 1st post view that this is first and foremost a fantasy forum so you'd expect members to discuss fantasy films/games/movies and join a guild or whatever too

I share his first opinion too.I also agree about the newbies posting right away in the debate rather than in the fantasy threads.

And hey,I got banned from a forum recently because I accused some of the moderators/admins for elitism!:p

I actually called them an "athenean group".

One of the reasons this forum is so addictive is because you CAN post about anything you want. But because it's called "The Fantasy Forum" you are more likely to get like-minded individuals to talk with. I would call TFF a general forum where people can talk about absolutely anything.

I agree. But if I was a mod I would have kicked a few newbies from their first 10 posts. You know how some new members make me angry.

What's also sad though is that we have more than 1500 members and not more than 50 people participate almost daily in the forum.

I agree that is sad, but I like having a nice, small forum

It's not really that small compared to some that have a hard time staying alive.

I mean, sure TFF's small, but it has never really had a problem getting new members, as far as i know.

My God, I burried this one carefully years ago. It's probably the only discussion I ever lost >.>

Anyway, I think now that TFF is not so much a forum as it is a community. And a friendly one at that.

Still, what lingers at the basis, is a fondness for fantasy (or, sometimes, sci-fi). It's what binds people, the glue, if you like - even though on-topic Fantasy discussion and RP'ing might well be less than 10% of what happens here.

At the time when I made this post, it wasn't exactly uncommon for people who had appeared to google for sexuality or religious discussions; make a snipe post about "how we were all wrong and would go to hell" and then bugger off, never to be seen again. And, frankly, that development bothered me.

I don't really care about people having post count <10 and giving their opinion, as long as they can carry a discussion and - possibly - show their heads elsewhere in the forum. That being said, I do stay with the adagium that this is a Fantasy community. There are forums enough with a different focus. Besides, the risk of things ending up in a massive apocalypse is all the more present if there's no other bond one has with people other then debating each other.

But yeah... I lost that discussion >.>

    you lost a debate

    on the internet

Wolves, dragons, ladies, gentlemen (just what are those anyway?) and others I think we have the first ever case of a person not only losing a debate on the internet - but admitting to it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think this thread needs sticky for that ;)

It's all very nice to think TFF is a "general" forum, but really it isn't, otherwise it's name would be completely void. The main focus of the forum of course is Fantasy. Whilst I don't hate people for posting in the debate sections and what not, it seems kind of redudant to join the forum for that reason solely or to spam unceasingly (the latter having become unforunately very prominent recently).

There is a sincere lack of "Fantasy" on the forum threads these days. Which to me seems a shame.

    ^ And 'A Memory of Light' ^

I remember that period, and have to be very careful how I comment on this topic, as anyone who remembers my 'crusade' against poor spelling will agree ;)

What I will say is that we should all applaud Tur for one of the most unique feats ever accomplished on the Internet, admitting defeat in an on-line debate! :D
