Hand for life?

    As I recall correctly, Hands of former Kings were Hand for life. Only replaced when they died.
    But not for Lord Tywin.
    Am I missing something here?

    good question, but i think each new king gets to pick his own hand. not sure though.

    I think Kings do get to pick new hands... that would make alot of sense, but I think Gwywen is reffering to the Mad King firing Mr Lanister snr.

    I read it as usually you are the hand for life, so getting fired was a big thing for Tywin, it really showed disrespect and disdain. Kind of like what Joffery did to Ser Baristan Selmy by firing him from the Kingsgaurd
