From here on, i can see ne1 new to this thread must see the thread titled "we were all wrong"... just a little reference for the newbies ;) so you dont have to post comments here only to find that new information on the death of GG has been found. In other words, GG did die in the iron grip of Sauron, in a 'blaze' of glory.

I know everyone here is going crazy over a small change. I don't mean to be different here, but Gil-Galad was barely even a character in the book. Some lines about him, but that is about it. And since this movie is about the book, is it really that bad that his death isn't in? Seriously, people, you need to calm the f*** down.

THOU BLASPHEMER OF THE TOMES OF TOLKIEN !!!! On a serious note, GG was a pretty important dude, dude. Without his and Elendil's sacrifice, good ol' Isildur would never have had the chance to catch Sauron in a vulnerable moment, and therefore, would have never gotten the ring in the first place. And the biggest matter was that this sequence was planned, but cut before it hit the cutting room floor. That, and for the longest time, we thought GG got wronged in how he bought the farm...

I'm not saying he wasn't important, I'm saying he isn't main. I like GG as much as you guys. Well, maybe not enough to burn PJ's house...

I assume he was cut because they would have to introduce him and explain who he is. Like most, near every change they did, was to simplify it for the general audience, and to make the movies more Hollywood-ish, so to say. The purists, as clear you all are, have suffered.

Aside of GG death of which I agree with you all, the invention of the so-called Hadhafang is somewhat disturbing. Aside from the fact that Elrond of course is the right-hand man of GG.

I heard it somewhere, but I'm not 100 percent. I could be wrong, just so you all know. I don't want to get mobbed. People don't like me in this thread for not being a GG zealot...

its false, cuz it specifically states in the Book of Lost Tales (dont remember if it was BolT #1 or #2) that an elf named Egalmoth forged and bore the only curved-bladed sword among the Noldor, of which he named (of course) 'Egalmoth'. And the Noldor were the only elves that worked with metals and gems, so no other race could have made them. But Idril did take up a sword during the battle of Gondolin, but it had no name and was taken from a fallen warrior. Whether it was curved or not, it did not say.

Hadhafang is a cool enough looking sword, just an invention of PJ and crew! Still don't have that one, not sure if it is worth getting. Back to the topic however the spear/sword of GG is pretty good (Aiglos), I highly doubt that we will ever see that one though.

Me too. it is my ambition to buy a steel replica of Aeglos. I would prefer UC to do it, but if NC does it I would buy it. On the note of Gil-Galad's death, I am glad that they didn't have him burning, that would be a disgrase to the high king of Noldar.

Well I don't think it's too violent, It's jusy how it goes according to the book.
And if people think it's too violent then you make it just for 12 year and older or something.

It would help explain why Sauron didn't just smash Isildur with his mace.

how would it not be a disgrace to the high king of the noldor, I mean dying alone is bad enough in front of all your men(elves) and the hideous orc hordes of mordor...
