Yep, that's the one. I thought it was Socrates because Socrates had some duty regarding the Athenian army, I believe.

Yeah!I don't wanna go back a few years ago like we used to debate gay stuff and all that, but believe me there's a lot of misunderstanding and a lot of misinformation when it comes to ancient greek history.Lots of times due to the misinterpretation of the ancient use of the words "erastis" and "eromenos" which now literally mean "lover" but back then had another meaning and a different kind of a relationship.
It's a wonder how the Western scholars didn't write books and present Chinese martial arts masters and their students as homosexuals. But of course if they did that, they'd have their asses kicked.Whereas in Greece we're more like "oh well ok,what can we do...let's watch TV who knows maybe they were bisexual".

    They were not dammit.

Plus I haven't seen or heard about large numbers of homosexuals fighting like lions and achieving magnificent feats on the battlefield and in a wider civilization level.

It might sound stereotypical but I just have a song in my mind now....IT'S FUN TO STAY AT THE YMCAAAAAA!!!!!IT'S FUN TO STAY AT THE YMCA!

Believe me I don't want to start another debate about the Greeks and homosexuality and such. It would only cause another flame war. But I just have to say and I looked up what you said about 'erastis' and 'ermenos'. I just didn't find anything to back up what you said that it did have a different meaning. That's all I'm going to say. Another thing is that I don't see the reason to swear, Foin. I mean even if some figures in Greek history weren't homosexual, would it be such a drama if they were?

Yes there would be drama, for historical accuracy and the truth.
I don't know how much true are the claims about ancient samurais in Japan because I've heard of similar stuff about the Japanese too.

That's not what I was trying to say... It's the principle.

I I think there's a certain level of homoeroticism in any male-centric environment. Be it the military or a sporting club. Take it to the extremes of machismo, and perhaps there is a higher chance of homoerotic behaviour. Even if the participants definitely categorise themselves as being straight.

I believe many a straight man who's had a gay experience still considers himself straight, not bisexual. It seems to depend if they're the pitcher or the catcher.

Foin, I'd be interested to read the samurai info if you could link it.

I haven't really looked into it but the first time I read something about it was in the graphic novel "Wind of the gods" or what was it called,I only had the first issue and i loved that graphic novel i loved the art and the plot but I lost it,but anyway....there was a hint there,if I remember correctly the main character or some other guy,who were all supposed to be samurais said something about "we all were disciples of the monks" and implied they were involved into homosexual acts or something.
Then, while watching an episode of Samurai Shamploo there was some implication of homosexuality in Japan,I think it was the episode with the gay Dutch guy but must have extended into implying stuff about Japanese culture.
Third,I came over some old Japanese art that depicted...various such homosexual acts.

So I don't know how much valid all that is,but both ancient Greece and ancient Japan are...how can I say this..."implied" of being societies very open to homosexuality.I don't know about Japan,I'm not sure, but for one thing, ancient Greece's case is misunderstood.

I believe that there has been homosexuality in various cultures and civilizations around the world from ancient times but the "phenomenon" has really come out after the 60s after the
    so-called "sexual revolution".

There have been armies in the past deliberately engineered to be made up of gay men. The idea being that soldiers would fall in love with each other and fight harder to protect their lovers, becoming much less likely to flee in battle. It worked very well. Whether this is applicable to modern warfare tactics is an issue that I'm not aware of being explored.

I dont know the specifics of the "gay rights". But to allow them to do everything a normal couple can? sure.
I dont think they should get treated better than anyone else, or get any special rights... But to be treated normal yeah

    Man + Woman = Baby
Man + Man = No baby
Woman + Woman = No baby

True love or not, Adam and Steve can never have their own babies... For that matter, neither can Eve and Amy. If it can't happen naturally, it logically isn't supposed to be. Therefore, scientifically, it's wrong; and logically, it's wrong too.

Not trying to hate on people, but that's just how it is.

So infertile people shouldn't be allowed to marry either?

Less people should be making babies. That's how it is these days.
