Also if you read the book Gandalf himself said he was already weary.
Just to let everyone know balrogs can fly so maybe Gandalf was waiting to see if he would fly back up
Feanor, thats a very opinated statement. If you search under old threads in this section, you will see why no one knows for sure if a Balrog can actually fly. Tolkien never actually said so, rather, left it up to the reader.
true, the subject is very much debated.
hence the statement, "damn newbie", the flying has been debated over and over, and the most agreed fact is that the thing cant fly, because the dabates are about whether it has wings, and most people who say it does also say they are non-funstional.
Standing there was kind of stupid, but if he had not, the other members of the fellowship might have been in danger. Gandalf had to be sure the Balrog would not get to them. :balrog:
