I took a buddy of mine to see ROTK and he liked it forthe most part, but at the end when Frodo is reunited with the Fellowship, he burst out laughing and couldn't stop. I can see how it would seem cheesy to someone who has very little interest in the LOTR world, but still...

By the way, this friend of mine reminds me EXACTLY of the grouchy hobbit at the Shire. He gives the same scowl and everything!

I'd hate to say anything but the third time I saw the movie I burst out laughing too and so did my friend and it was her first time and we are both very much into LoTR.

First time I saw RotK and that scene happened, my friend called Legolas a metrosexual when the elf walked in. I thought that was pretty funny.

I feel your pain. All of my friends are into it, except one. He made some comment about having had enough of New Zealand. Whatever! To each his own, I guess, some people will never understand.

I seriously don't understand why you guys laughed. I've seen the movie 3 times now. Every time I see the movie, i get the same emotional effect. I find it immature of Nathan's friend to call Legolas a metrosexual. Do you have any have reason why you laughed? You probably don't. If you have read the books, which I take it, most of you haven't, you would see that the ending is just like the ending in the movie. And if you liked the LOTR, which some of you claim, you wouldn't be making these comments now would you. I have alot of friends who saw the movie, and NONE of them laughed. If you appreciated Tolkien's works, and Peter Jackson's works in translating the books into a movie, you wouldn't be laughing at an emotinal scene in an epic film. Oh and by the way, if you thought that the ending to the movie was long, read the books, the ending is even longer.

I have the read the books. I try to read the books once a year. I've been a fan of LoTR long before the movies existed. As for emotions, I cry every time I read the book. But the movie just did not have the same effect on me as the book did. As for why I laughed, I do have a reason. Because the characters were laughing. Plain and simple. When they cry I cry, when they smile I smile, when they laugh, I laugh.

I'm sorry, i just got a little worked up. I missunderstood you. I thought that you meant that you were laughing because you though it was stupid. I'm with you on the whole crying thing though. I cry when I read the books also. But, for some strange reason, I cried so many times when I saw the ROTK. Even worse, I cried so many times the second time I saw the movie, that i lost count. I never cry on movies. So the bottom line is, I'm sorry if I offended you, it was not my intent.

No harm! I should have made it more specific that I wasn't laughing at them. Though you have to admit, Gimli's entrance was priceless ;)

I guess i didn't think about the fact that this IS a fantasy forum, and LOTR is a fantasy novel. I should have put 2 and 2 together. Sorry guys.

It really was. I grimaced and felt like crying then. At the end though, when the hobbits are back in the Shire and that one hobbit gives them a look I really did smile a tad, but the next minute I was sobbing like a baby at the Grey Havens scene.

I'll admit it - I cried 4 times the first few times I saw it - Theoden, Mt. Doom/Morannon, Frodo's Recovery, and the Grey Havens. And I was smiling most of the time too. It was so beautiful.

Gud, im with you all the way man. But the part i cried the most on, and gets me every time, is the part when frodo tells sam to go home. Sean astin's performance was so powerful, and it got me right in the heart. it wasnt a little misty-eyed cry, it was a full on, "look at the tears pouring down my face" cry.

ROTK felt like an emotional rollercoaster, happy, sad, laughing, crying. Wonderful film.
