It's for the good for the forum!!
and Liv cause she isn't here enough
I've been thinking about this for a while. The most active mod I've seen in the past three years is Mububban, and he's hardly ever there.
I've PMed Nienor about stuff but never gotten a reply.
I think we need new mods.
I mean people have been noticing it for basically a year. And Liv pmed sky months ago. I don't know if anything urgently is going to happen .
Looking at the last visits of the Admins, I'd say they still do visit, about once a month or so. Things don't have to change overnight, I'd think. In fact, TFF has been faring without close moderation for quite some time (or so it would seem).
I suggest we just wait for a bit and see what'll happen.
Yeah this is certainly a good thing to bring up but I guess the mods just don't check this part of the forum when they do show up? Or maybe they're having secret meetings and not telling us.
I'm sure it's all a diabolical conspiracy ^^
Just for luck, I spread a few PMs here and there, though...
Did it! Liv will pm as well!
I wrote to Sky about this a couple of months ago (I think), and again tonight after Sevi brought it to my attention that others felt the same.
Also, I'd like to apologize for being so absent. I've had some personal stuff going on. I hope we can get some extra mods and more activity as well.
Sky has been swamped IRL, so we just need to be patient!
And keep the thread alive just in case..
Basically re-mentioning what we're talking about so it's easy to see at first glance:
The mods are all very absent lately (pas year or so) and we believe that we need them.
One idea put forward (title of the thread) is to have new mods created, people that are more active than the current one.
I, above all, cannot blame the mods for being absent. I might be the worst out of us "active" members at maintaining a consistent appearance. My "real" life has become very complicated (as usual), but as I work to bring it down to something simpler, I have found more time for the forum and will hopefully continue to do so. I think if we made more efforts to expand from Spam, we might have better luck at forum moderators sticking around. We have tried to get out of Spam before, but it's difficult when we all know each other pretty well; there's hardly anything new to talk about... and many of us disagree on politics, religion, etc so we get a lot of fights (because a lot of us our quite set in our convictions as well).
Also, I believe part of the problem is that some of us long too much for the days of old in TFF, but instead of truly looking to the future, we try to hard to assimilate our wonderful past.
The forums are certainly very low maintenance at present. It's odd considering that when one searches for fantasy forum its one of the top google responses and yet we seem to hold onto very few newer members. Though, generally, we do hang onto the best ones
Further many of the disputes tend to heal themselves up over a short period of time. We just don't have the high intensity drama and spambot targeting to attract the mods.
I think the problem is, as you say liv, many of us have already held most of the discussions to know each others viewpoints. Even many of our debates are mostly running on circular arguments between established parties- with the odd renewal when a new person joins in.
However I'll also say that a forum without a mod/admin is like a ship without a captain. Everything runs, everything keeps ticking over quite happily, but there isn't any direction or focus. Even if its not a clear cut set of order the simple presence helps to remind people and also shows as a confidence in the forum that, yes, it will all be hear tomorrow. Such gives people a motivation to grow what is present.
I've been on sites where the admin vanishes and they all tend to suffer the same problem - ticking over followed by an ever growing list of little changes/adjustments needed, followed by a growing lack of direction - before everything starts to slowly fall apart. TFF has resisted the last stage, mostly because the core community here is too tightly knit to let it fully break.
Seriously, we need at least one active mod.
Edit: Now I reported my own post, maybe someone actually reads it
I'm starting to think that this new, mythological mod - is going to be a very lonely mod!
I do actually read and mod here.
The suggestions are valid. However I have no power to create new moderators and I can't remember the last time I spoke to CB Swords or Skyanide.
I spoke with Sky... whenever I wrote in this thread that I spoke with him
He said he just needs some time because he's swamped in the real life. I don't think any of us are really going anywhere.
