Yea, if you look on page one, I wrote about how battles work. I said that you fight ppl whilst you explore. most D&D games and the such will be how iots played. Wander wander...enemy on the same map.

This essentially means that you can pick who you wish to fight in a manner. Although I could be wrong on that. But that's how I interpret it.

Well, so long as you have the freedom of movement. There might be monsters you simply can't avoid, and if they see you or you get close enough, I think they might chase you. So that could get a little annoying, but on the whole, it should be really cool.

    Finally!

I think PSM wrote an article saying that this was one of the stupidest things to have continue to occur in RPGs a couple of years ago.

Well, there were good aspects of them and bad aspects, but there were times (and a lot of them) when the bad far outweighed the good. I mean, how annoying was it to be moments away from this epic battle and a major turning point and BAM random battle with a turtle or something. It was so annoying.

Rofl...I actually liked the idea of random battles.

It's called being ATTACKED or Waylaid. You don't selectively go up to something and saying "*name* has attacked you" and the such.

Plus...frustration of nearly getting somewhere but encountering a monster adds to all the tension and fun :p

Wow! Great info and explanation Meteorain. I learned a lot from reading that, but just one question. Why is the main female character, Ashe, picking her nose in that image?

She's touching her nose, not picking it.

And yes, it is an excellent explanation of the battle system, Meteorain. You clearly know your stuff. What you don't know, however, is that I am very impatient, especially when something is really really close, and when something happens to keep me for a few seconds longer, I run a risk of throwing my PS2 clear out the window in my frustration.

    :littlethi that thing's adorable....

You've got a good point, I'm just tired of it being in pretty much every RPG that isn't a strategy one. Like, I accept for world maps, but in other places, wouldn't it kinda make sense to have some different system?

Yes, I am impatient aswell, but the tension adds to the fun, so afterwards you're like.

"Wow...finally f**king did it" and it feels good

Then why is she touching her nose? That seems like an odd thing to do for a pose.

What the hell has that got to do with FFXII?

Erm...tapping your nose usually means "not telling" or hiding a secret.

    Maybe's that's why?

It also might be something specific to Japan. Maybe it's the equivalent to a wink or a whistle (as in, at a member of the opposite sex)... :D

finally got to play the demo, and its not bad at all.
The feel of the game is alot like FFXI online, even the mandragoras in the demo are exactly like that of the online version.

You get the demo if you buy DragonQuest 8, the demo comes with that game. Keep in mind you have to buy it...if you rent it you wont get that disc...and thats the only demo on it. Luckily my friend bought the game.
