Well, the period manuals are where the Talhoffer lessons are, unless you are talking about some of the new books out that sort of digest it for modern reader.

~Shields are very cumbersome, until someone starts lobbing slings and arrows at you! :)

My favorite style of fighting is based around my love of the Bronze Age. I'd take a large shield, a couple of javelins, and a short thrusting sword into battle anyday, if my weapons were able to match up to an opponents defenses, under regular circumstances. This is one of my new bronze swords cast by Neil Burridge in England... His website is here:

    And here's my sword...

I need to do some TIG welding on it, once I get a little sliver of blade from Neil that came off, before shipping... Also some TIG for a couple of cracks that he couldn't braize. Then lots of polishing! And then, the hilt, of course... This is a Mycenaean Ci Bronze Rapier, dating to about 1500 BC... It's a thrusting weapon, hence "rapier".

I was trained, and use most frequently, the japenese Katana-Wakazashi style. I have tried using only one sword, but I always make the mistake of thinking I have two, and leave my defences open.
