Well, I am in a dojo that does Samurai weapons and me and my friend also do medieval style fighting. We make alot of the weapons we use.

Try using just a single sword, its more of a challange for some than using Sword/mace and sheild.

I did that also but it's a much more defensive fighting style to me at leats and I am a very aggressive fighter as my size and strength gives me a great advantage quite often! I almost use my shield as a weapon blocking and pushing my apponent off balance while striking with the sword

Yeah, that is one great thing about shields. But I agree, defending agains polearms is a real pain!!

A two handed weapon has far greater power, and force then a single handed one, however. So in a sense, it is more aggressive.

In a way your right! but with only a sword in a battle that can last but a mere few seconds you have to defend and attack with your only weapon.
With sword and shield I can take care of my opponents sword with my shield while striking with my sword!!! thus you wind up far more aggressive in your attacks.

I actually dont know what style it is. It was incorporated into some Karate training that I had. My sensai had studied several different forms, and so he often taught us stuff that was not actual Karate, but other stuff as well. I have done a little bit(very, VERY, little bit) of Kendo and kenjitsu, as well as a korean fighting form, but most of what I know with katana came from that Karate class, and I dont remember what the weapon styles were, sorry.

Personally I really like the pudao. When I first started training with weapons I started out with a staff and the idea of a long blade attached to a pole really appeases to me.
I also like the butterfly swords. WOOO twin blades!

Scimitars are definately my favorite type of weapon, looks cool. Unfortunately, I've never used one because my parents just started letting me have and use weapons.

i like a bastard sword as much as anyone, but as NorthFire said, a puado is starting to grow on me. Actually, i'm not sure if the EWS style sword is a puado, but i have a staff that pulls apart at the middle, making the handle and the blade the same length. Sweetness

Sword and sheild for me Basicly because The greeks are a strong hardy folk and we have always used sword and sheild. The sheild can help deflect and can be used for ramming and bashing. I used to be in a Byzantine reenactment group still got all my stuff though;)

Yeah whenever my friends and I fight with blunts I use a sword and sheild. Really works wonders if you know what your doing. Plus if you training/fighting with someone who isnt filmiliar with the sword a sheild can protect him well.

I use a black prince, fully functional sword. The sword is not all that heavy, but if I were to use a shield it might get a little awkward for me. Using the sword I do, sometimes it requires two hands to be able to keep control when using it. A shield would be nice when I am practicing with another person. I agree it would be very helpful to have incase you are struck with the other persons sword. But, to this point I have managed to ward off any direct hits.

I've been training in historical longsword, in the Italian style of Fiore dei Liberi. I like it alot, although I don't currently have a functional longsword.

Right now, I'm thinking about developing a new art based on the combat style that Robert E Howard describes Conan the Cimmeran as using.

greatswords are the best. I think greatswords are a weapon requireing a great deal of dewterity and finesse to use.
Ive been trying to get in to Talhoffer and other German styled longsword but im poor so I dont have any money to buy books and the poel I spar with arent too interested in period manuals.
