What is your favorite style of swordfighting, and why? What weapons do you personally like to use, or find the best and most useful in a fight. I will answere later, because I have held one opinion for a long time, and it may be slowly changing, and I want to see what everyone else thinks.

Mine has now been changed to a hand and a half sword! (due to this site and it's huge sword influence:) ) But pryor to that the thought of pounding my way through my enemy on horse back with a war hammer appealed to me most!

twin scimitar? I have never really thought of using scimitars, but I have fought with 2 katana. I have always like the Japanese sword arts best, because they are incredibly fast and deadly, and they have one of the best made swords in the world to back it up with.
But recently, I have been looking at fighting with a rapier(not fencing, but real rapiers) I have never liked rapiers much, because they just seemed to flimsy for my tastes, but it also seems like fighting with a rapier was increadibly fast, one of the only sword fighting styles that it seemed to me could be faster than fighinting with katana.

    What do you guys think?

Yeah, i am trying to figure that out, because there is no place around here for me to learn to fight with a rapier, and I dont have enough money to get a decent one to practice with right now.

I most like using a 2 or 1 1/2 handers. Though I often experiment with katanas, spears, naganata, nagamaki, sword and shield, 2 swords, flail, axe, wakizashi and more stuff

Phew! Where do you get to play with a flail and all those japanese swords, Gavaha?! If I actually had my choice, I think I'd be best with a scimitar or rapier or katana...heh heh.

Amen. I personally prefer Katana so far, although I want to try rapier. I dont like heavier weapons much, cause you cannot usually use them anywhere near as fast.

I have a friend who is smaller than me, about 5'5" and about 50kg who uses a broadsword and can do these really fast moves. It's quite amazing to watch. She does Choy Lee Fut (sp?) style kung fu. *shrugs* So you can use them as fast. You just have to be very good *c*

Not sure. Chinese-style I guess. She's only ever referred to it as her "broadsword."

well, there is a huge difference between a chinese style broadsword and a European style broadsword. I can picture someone keeping up with Katana and rapier users by using a chinese broadsword, but not a European 2 hander.
While it is "possible" it is extremely unlikely that someone using a Euro broadsword can move a sword that fast. You would have to be pretty damn good, and even so, someone with the same amount of skill in Katana would still be faster.

I can't go past sword and shield. It's my prefered combo for my re-enacting group, because you can block with your shield, and you can still put a large amount of force into a single handed sword (not that we do for our style of fighting!).

I love fighting with 2 swords or sword and dagger, but it's a great fun way to die on our field of combat :)

I have been getting interested in European bastard swords recently. I just dont like fighting with sword and shield personally. Its just to static for me. I would rather have the mobility that comes with multiple weapons, or just one 2 handed weapon.

I agree, i find he shield to be somewhat combersome and in the way and weighty LOL

I would rather be able to move around quickly with a sword and dagger in each hand.

me too...only i would take a hand and a half claymore bastard sword (what i have...only i want it functional) and a knife/dagger tucked away in its sheath for a while

    thats the beauty of hand-and-a-half-swords...

when i'm in my room sparring i kinnda mix swordfighting (no real name of the art...i made it up myself :draught: ) and karate...i know that a sidekick won't do much against armor, but a perfectly placed back-kick to the head will take down anyone
