Would an elf be able to then? Since hes an Elf, not a man... He never specified which gender (Male or Female)..Only man..

Something about Tolkien wanting a woman to do it...

Eh, I think it's in his notes somewhere. I don't know the whole and full explanation.

Did you know that Christopher Lee asked Tolkien's permission to be Gandalf if ever they made a film of LotR, and he got it? But then he got the role of Saruman which, to me, is the better.

Now that's just cool how he got permission for a character he ended up not getting. I agree that Christopher Lee had a better deal as Saruman, only because I think he plays villains pretty well.

All though this could be said of many characters in LotR, I think it's safe to say that Pippin single-handedly won the war of the ring, through his convincing of treebeard to go south which lead to the march of the Ents, instrumental in the downfall of Isengard, and his accident with the Palantir that gave gandalf foresight into Saurons plan to siege Minas Tirith.

For me it was a tough decision between Legolas and Gandalf, but I chose Gandalf. He's really wise, and awesome, has high morals, and a stick!

My favorite character is Sam. Gandalf is also one of my favourite LotR-characters, but he's a semi-god and doesn't really count as I see it. Sam is nothing special - no brave and strong human warrior, no graceful and wise elf, no powerful semi-god wizard - he's just a hobbit gardnerer, which makes his unfaultering loyalty and devotion all the more impressive.
