LOTR by a long shot although The Hobbit was absolutely fantastic. The Silmarillion was an excellent read but had me quite confused in some parts. PS. Sorry about the double post. Still trying to get used to being on a forum.
My favourite book would have to be LOTR. I tried reading silmarilion (sp?) aboujt 3 years ago and didn't like it. I am going to try again in the near future. (PS. some of you may find this interesting:click here
Would have to be LOTR for me, although The Hobbit is an excellent starter for LOTR, awaiting BOLT at the moment so cant comment on that book, The Sil Im going to have to reread a few times to extract all that information.
easily the hobbit it was so much more epic and put down ground work for the LOTR trilogy. (you could easily say Silmarion did this but the hobbit put it more bluntly)
That would still have to be "The Hobbit". Up until now, I read "Silmarillion", "The Hobbit" and the LotR trilogy, but "Silmarillion" had a bit too much of history and LotR had quite too many battles for my taste. Of course, I loved them all, and they're all in my top 5. But "The Hobbit" was exactly what I expected from a greatly-written fantasy book.
Silmarillion is the best. Especially I hin Hurin. One of the best story written on the field of fantasy. Christopher (JRR`s son) is now publishing this story like a novel. Children of Hurin. But beware. If you don`t like Silmarillion because of hard reading and lot of names and characters, this is not book for you.
The Lord of the Rings, The Book of Lost Tales, The Silmarillion, Unfinished Tales, The Hobbit, in that order.
