Ok so I've always had a problem finding the name of the type of armour you see portrayed in a lot of fantasy pictures. It's segmented and resembles plate mail, but mostly contours to your body and is lighter. Here are some examples of what they look like:

This one; the leg armour is how it looks mostly, but covering the body. Segmented and contouring. Albeit the segments overlap eachother to reduce spaces within armour.

    Nobody have any idea?

Well if not, can any body provide me any additional pictures to armour in this sort of fashion?

It indeed look like plate mail....just a very stylized for of it I think. Fantasy art is different from actual armor, you can do about anything with a pencil or pen!

I'm not sure if plate mail is an actual correct term, or a modern anachronism. I'd bet modern though. History never refered to mail/maille and "chain mail" either. That seems to have only come about in the 1700's or 1800's I think?

I think piece mail is also a fantasy/gaming term for bits and pieces of armour assembled as you find them.

    But I could be wrong.

You can easily make this type of armor out of leather, in fact most leather armor I've seen is of this style.

Except the material you see in fantasy is usually much tougher than leather, a sort of ceramic looking metal.

I wanted to know what it was called though. Articulated Armour possibly?

You can treat leather to look like metal. Color it, make it shiny. And stiff leather will hold curved shapes like metal just fine

AFAIK, plate mail and chainmail are modern terms. Mail or maille is a medieval word for what is now - and unfortunately - called chainmail.

I have never heard the term piece mail before, and strongly suspect it's a game term.
