Does anyone here pay attention to the artists on the book covers?

My favorite artist is Brom by far. I love the dark images he comes up with. My favourite pictures he has done are from the Dark Suns series. If you are not overly familiar with him he can be found at

Take a peek and let me know what you think and who your fave is.

Ain't nothing better than my own private thread! So I'm sitting around lurking in the forums and I think " hey how about a fave fantasy artist thread?" lo and behold there is one. I started it. 8 years ago.

Anywaaaays. Update....Brom is now an author as well. His books are slowly getting better and longer. I thouroghly enjoyed them all.
Brian Froud is a fun artist especially in The Goblin Companion.
Alan Lee is known for many many Lord of the Rings illustrations especially in the designs for the movies.

    Hey there, herzog!
Have I now ruined your perfectly private thread? I hope not!
I have a book by Brom that I very much enjoy. It's an art book simply titled "The art of Brom". He's one of my favorites as well. How are his stories?
There's a few mentions of both Peter Pan and Yule in this here art book. I checked out Keith Parkinson, too. Great stuff!
    Have a good one!

Heck no! Make yourself at home it's always nice to have company.
Brom has 4 books. 2 are illustrated stories that are only about 120 to 140 pages each. He tells a good story but he doesn't go on at great length like most authors. His ideas in words are just as dark as his illustrations so even though it ends quickly it was worth the reads. They are the devils rose and the plucker.
His other "full length" novels are Krampus , which is a christmas themed story, and the Child Thief which is a retelling of Peter Pan.
His style is like David Eddings now that I think about it. Simple to read and hard to put down.
    Hope that helps!

My s.o. is also really into Brom, as far as I know. I think I even got him "The Art of Brom" for his birthday a couple of years ago. Boris Vallejo is another name that comes to mind. Not my preferred art style, because it's too colourful and there's too much nudity for my taste - not because I have a problem with nudity, but because I love to see clothing and armour concepts in fantasy-related art, and I think coming up with armour/clothing is so much more imaginative than just drawing half-naked men and women. :D

Cool thread! :) I greatly enjoy a couple of the artists mentioned above (and now will have a few new ones to check out as well!)
Another fantasy artist I adore the work of is Jean-Baptiste Monge. His work just has so much character to it.

how could I forget Vallejo? That was probably my first exposure to fantasy art. Boris the bodybuilder and his wife Julie Bell (also a fantasy artist) were the models on his pictures.
TYVM chesh. I will check out that link immediately

Herzog, I'll try to pick up one of Broms novels soon. Thanks for your opinion!
Vallejo is cool. It must be Vallejo who did the National Lampoon poster?

a name that comes to mind for me is Luis Royo. I like his artstyle for the most part, not all of it, but a good bit of it. I was first introduced to his work by browsing a semilocal bookstore and seeing a book of his art. I believe he has done stuff for covers, but I can't think of any off the top of my head, or it could be someone with a similar look.

    Thanks PerFolmer :),

To stay on topic (and because I want to).. I would like to recommend a couple of other artists who are my long time favorites and even the reason why I went into art (besides Frazetta).... Check out Vance Kovacs and Justin Sweet, you might remember their art from the old Black Isle games Baldurs Gate ect... now they do concept art for heaps of movies...
