Saturday-Monday would be cheaper. What would be more convenient for you guys?

Also, we'll have to document EVERYTHING we do because this'll be an epic event.

Again, I am driving - makes me flexible :)

I discussed the holidays with my main coworker today. Looks like she's in for a holiday in September, so I can plan the days around the last weekend off at my leisure :)

So, let's talk places to stay. How are we doing? Do we want to stay at the same place? Do we know a good place to stay in Gdánsk - I am looking at you, Oddy. What sort of price ranges are we looking at?

Right, so, I've stickied this thread, and edited out the starting post with information regarding this event.

Who knows, we might get some extra participants :D

Would that be cheaper for you than Saturday-Monday?

Friday-Sunday flights would cost ~250€ for me, Saturday-Monday ~160€. So the latter would be my preferred choice. That way (as suggested) we could use Saturday afternoon/evening and the whole Sunday for whatever we want to do.

Well, you could add if someone is on my way, I would gladly take him or her (free of charge) :)
Well, I reckon If I`ll drive solo I`ll need a around a 12h to get there - so I am thinking of sleeping somewhere near Suwalki(or Kaunas) , I would be happy if our Polish girl could suggest me some ekh-safer places to stay, because here in Latvia, we consider Poland (specially near kaliningrad) to be quite dangerous.

Yeah, I have to look into that. It certainly will depend on if you all want to stay in one room, or if you want individual rooms, if you want it to be a 5-star hotel or a cheap hostel :D Any preferences? Also, if Firi would feel strange sleeping in one room with two guys she met over the internet ( :D ), she could sleep at my place.

Wow, I didn't know that :> I don't think it is noticeably more dangerous (or rather less safe xD) than the rest of the country. But I don't really know that region very well, so it might be difficult to recommend anything in particular.

Yeah, as much as I like you guys (and thanks for the offer, @Oddrun!), I think I'd prefer a little privacy in the morning/evening/night :p (you know, recharging and stuff. Also, who knows what evil things I do at night :spiningdemon:)
I just did a quick search for hotels in Gdansk and, damn, they're really cheap. As long as the customer ratings are good I don't need 5 stars and a jacuzzi, just a clean bed and a bathroom for myself (to wash off the blood of my victims without anyone noticing). :D

lol - isn't, like, Russian territory? Can you even get a visum to pass through Kaliningrad??

I do consider Poland to be quite dangerous, though. But that's mostly because driver's licenses are handed out by McDonald's. Which, on the face of things, comes with their Polish little Happy Meals. They have no idea (none) how to behave in trafic...

Otherwise, I don't think Poland is any more dangerous than any other country right side of the old iron curtain.

Fair enough. To be honest, I wouldn't care either way. But that's probably just a guy thing.

I can't imagine the Polish being worse drivers than Italians. But then again, I still have lots to learn about the world outside. :D

This is perfectly uderstandable - I usually prefer it like that myself :) Ok. So if you want you can just book a room in a hotel you like, or you can chose one, let me know, and I can book it for you. Don't know if you guys prefer a place in the old town, or maybe somewhere near where I live? The city is actually not thaaaat big, so both would be perfectly cool. Btw, I live in the Oliwa quarter.

Later today I'll search for the best offers and then let you know what I found that I'd consider booking (and probably also ask you about the area :D) :)

    Ditto!

Err, Odds. Can you, like, guarantee that Poland is, like, still stable enough to visit in July? ;)

Yeah, I know that our current government is a crazy lot, but I don't think they'll be able to ruin the whole country until July :D Nah, it's going to be fine.

Whoa. I searched for 2- and 3-star hotels (and hostels and pensions) and judging from their photos they'd have at least 4 stars over here. That's either super awesome or the fotos are a little deceptive. :D

I found the Stara Karczma Pensjonat which is close to the Park Oliwski, so I guess that's in the quarter where you live. It's quite cheap but has good customer ratings.
Then there's Hotel Impresja, which is in Aniolki (?), and Hotel Wolne Miasto, which is in the Old Town. Those are the three that looked best to me (regarding price, customer ratings, and location).
