That's what I thought of as well.
That's one of the reasons I've never tried pastels. I'd read horror stories about how difficult they are to use!
Still, it looks to me like you'll do just fine with them. You seem to have the patience for it anyway. That's always a valuable attribute for an artist to have.
That's two Uma Thurman votes. Nice!
I'd love to try pastels. Emerlas piece sure does increase that interest.
It does, doesn't it? And then I remember how messy they can get and I decide, "Yeah, no."
Eph, stop inhibiting me!
Emerlas... great start!
Just some tips for when you get back to it, because as you've probably found out... pastels are a bitch to work with. Change your mindset from drawing with pastels to painting with pastels and do it in layers. You've actually started things the right way with using a harder pastel. Then go in with soft mushy pastels on top and use you fingers or a smudge stick to do the blending. The rough drawing you're going from is excellent and is what any painter would use. Keep it going!
Good advice. *Scribbles in his notebook for when he decides to fiddle with pastels.*
Wow Emerlas ... that looks like it's going to turn out great. I hope you post a pic of the final piece!
Love your work Ephemeral! I also find your mix of drawing and images (textures) really inspiring.
And I can safely say that I visit CrumbeCult more often than every Monday, just to look at the drawings.
I finished it!!
I'll post a picture in my photograph thread, soon
it isn't too good though, a rough job
You, sir, have my undying gratitude for that. I love it when people check out my stuff.
I would say rough in a very pleasing way... and that's not just me trying to be nice. It's like you've stopped short of overloading the image with too much detail. Very nicely done.

Great expressions on the first two and the third... What a woman!
Thanks for sharing!
More Eph art! Yay!
The cartoon of the woman reminds me a little of a pro tennis player I saw on the TV while I was at gym the other day. That lady was a true "amazon": muscular and fit in the extreme. There was nothing small, wispy or insubstantial about her and she was gorgeous.
Per just stole the words from my mouth!
@SJ: Erm, *clears throat* you wouldn't know here name would you? haha
*runs circles around SJ, trying to annoy her into giving in*
hahahahahahahahahahah heheheheheheheheheheheheh hohohohohohohohohohohohoho hihihihihihihihihihihihihihihi
Eph, I love your art! You draw such great characters. Keep them coming
Thanks for viewing! I'm really pleased with my Amazonian woman!
S.J., I am seriously chuffed with your take on my Amazonian woman. That is exactly the vibe I was going for with that illustration.
Maybe she was talking about the Williams sisters? They're pretty amazing in the physique department!
Thank you so much, Oddy!
Proof that your artistic communication is right on
I was indeed. It was Serena Williams I saw on TV in a pro tennis match:
